Keep them Harleys I rode the new RG and Ultra still to top heavy still ride like $hit Vic and Indian still out do them in both fields all day.
Meh, I've ridden the Indians and Harley's too. I can't think of a single area where the Indian is better than the new Harley's. The Vic's are still a more comfortable and better handling bike, but between the two surviving brands I'll take the Harley every time. Bonus it's an original not a wannabe. Double bonus, it's not made by Polarass. Triple bonus, you can get good power out of an M8.

man we were all spoiled by Victory, they may have not been the best bikes out there, but for what you got, what they did, how easy there were generally to service and what we paid for them, they couldn't be beat.

End of an era.

I still have an 05 Vegas and my 59 BMW i'm slowly bringing back to life but it's neither for me is an everyday bike.

The nice thing about the Indians is that their value plummets quickly. I've seen several Roadmasters, 15-16 for in the mid teens with less than 10k miles on them.

Tempted to try one since I still admit they look good, but I'm not sure I will ever get over my bias of Polaris

I would like to see photos of it if you can. Great looking bikes.

@iabob i can't believe you rode them both and you think Harleys handling and ride is comparable lmao not even close my man not even close. 2 1/4" of HD travel vs 4 1/2" Indian . Come on my ultra has the same travel not even close. And I can take my indian off the stand and never touch the handle bars try that on an ultra RG I can't do it on my sons 17. Not a big deal that we don't agree but man how can you not feel the difference. $hit if they could compare I'd have one no doubt.

Lmao it's a good thing your not mad at Polaris if indian was 10x the bike you'd never admit

Oh I would admit it, I already have on many occasions. My hatred towards Polaris isn't because the bikes suck, they don't. I personally don't like them as well as Vic's, but that's not saying they suck. If you like yours, great! Doesn't change the fact that the brass at Polaris have proven themselves untrustworthy which is why I will not do any further business with them.

What I AM saying here is that Harley doesn't suck either. That wasn't always true. But it is now. Yes, I have ridden several newer Harley's and I don't see Indians as better in any category. Not in power, not in comfort, not in handling. So far the only bike I felt I had to keep my hands on while straddling it standing still was a Boss Hoss. Even then, so what. I don't buy a bike to stand over, I buy it to ride and the newer Harley's ride as good or better than Polaris-Indians. The fact that they're now copying Harley right down to the batwing fairing with the vent and squared off saddle bags does give me the taste of puke in the back of my mouth though. So sad to see a company that at one time created such unique and beautiful designs do a cut and run to go full bore copycat. But like I said, if you're into it by all means enjoy it. They ride pretty much exactly the same as Harley's.

@iabob lol well I agree with you on 1 thing the Chief Glide is a definite kopykat. But there are many so they assume like that style but are done with the Harley drivetrain. Hopefully the oil system is getting better as time goes on. But from what I've seen and ridden myself. They are still but a descent down the middle of the road bike. Now I can tell you this and it mite be remedied now. A Partner of mine did the 114 upgrade on his 17 and when they pulled it down with 5000 miles on it. The pistons looked as if they had 50,000 on them. But we will continue to disagree I'm good with that. But from spending time on both suspension and handling in itself Harleys way behind. But hey I'm gonna put mine thru it's paces shortly for the first time leaving on the 28th back on the 12th for a west coast 6000 mile trip. The 2 weeks later an East coast run. And that will give me a much better idea of how this bike shakes out. As I've said so far so good. But I bought it at the end of the season and only have 4g on it. It may not be what I hope it is but for as hard as I ride I'm gonna find out. Oh yeah ride each one down a ruff road and get back to me on that.

The Chief Glide and have you seen the "spy" pics of the upcoming Indian Road Glide? I think Harley could sue its such a copy. Anyway, part of my indifference is while baggers are fine motorcycles, they just aren't what excites me. Sportys and Scouts are also fine bikes, but too small for me. So let's compare the new Softail lineup to a Chief Classic or Vintage...show me a Street or Fat Bob with a few small mods and that's a bike I'm interested in. Of course as long as I have my Pin I'm not interested enough to buy one, but you get the point.

nothing of note to show yet unfortunately.

I'm still waiting for my title to show so that I know i wont have issues with it down the road.

If would really suck to drop the amount of $$$ i need to bring it back to life and not be able to ride.

The state finally cashed my check for registration etc about a week ago. So that's semi promising that they approved the paperwork this time.

If the cashing of the check indicates that they registered the bike, then it's good; you can't register a vehicle without having an active title.

Well they cashed the check but as government always does, they sent me an email saying they're missing information on how I acquired it.

Well no, i wrote a freaking essay on how I got possession, what i did to try and title etc.

So this time I sent via email, lets see if they move forward.

The whole problem stems from them changing computer systems about a decade ago. If a vehicle hadn't been registered in a 5 year previous window then they didn't have to keep it.

I literally still have the Wisconsin plates he registered with from 67-77 but they can't search records they decided they didn't need to keep..

Oh well. I'm still trying. I'd hate to have this piece of family history fade away.

I'm really trying to get it road worthy before my Uncle passes, he's 84 now and not in the greatest health. Even yesterday when I was with my Dad he fondly talked about riding it to Kansas City and he thinks it may have been it's last real trip.

So it's not just a bike, it's a family heirloom I want to get rolling again before this generation passes on.

Have you attempted to file for a "lost title" using your prior registration as proof of ownership? If you still have the tags, they might provide additional proof.

Unfortunately there is no longer any record. As i stated at some point in the last decade or so they changed their computer systems over.

Whomever did the porting of information was told that they didn't need to move any records that were more than 5 years defunct so unfortunately there is no record anymore to trace.

On the upside, it took me almost a year to get the bike into my possession just because of family issues so i'm ready for another long fight to get this last issue taken care of.

Finding needed parts for a 60 year old german motorcycle will feel like a cakewalk after all this crap :)

@Gossamer I take it that you have none of the original registration material. Was the tag you have issued when you got a new tag every time you renewed the registration, or does it have the year sticker on it? Also, have you inquired as to what the SOP is for the DMV to issue a "Lost Title"?

because the bike was last registered in 1977 and the original paperwork has long since gone missing the DMV's only option is to offer me a bonded title due to the fact a way's back they wiped out all vehicles that had not been registered in the previous 5 years. I've spoken with several different divisions up to and including archives, sent them pictures of the plates, serial tag etc.

No option but an insured title(surety bond).

I was just commenting on how they cashed the check for everything, then a week+ later send me an email saying they're missing information needed to send me the value I need to get the vehicle bonded for.
