$1350 CAD (all in) to install Vic chrome sweepers and ECM update. The Vic website says $950 for the parts. $400 seems excessive to me for installation and ECM download. Is that reasonable?

Also, what are these guys getting for just 1 stage 1 download?

I'm thinking I might just buy 'em and install them myself.

Are there any better exhaust options out there for the money?

Is there any difference between 09 and 10 hammers? I don't see any pipes listed for the 10's on the website.

Thanks in advance,

Bill

Take a look at Conquest Customs pipes.... Best sound on a Vic if you like louder pipes. Get an S&S air box and install both yourself. Have the stealer do the down load after you install them.

Don't forget the rates are preset hours for most jobs. That is, there is a rating of hours per job. If the job is rated at 2 hours, the tech can take that time to do the job. The tech is making more $ when he beats the rate because of his skills at completing the job quicker.
Your complaint is really not legit, as the pricing should be discussed up front and you agree to it or not. The dealer attitude is wrong, but his stance on it is right: you ordered the work and you should pay for it at the agreed price.
If your complaint is really about the quoted price, try thinking what it takes to provide the service, including equipment expenses and dealer overhead.
What would you do if you were the manager? Give things away?
Hopefully your attitude would be better if you were the manager, but it's also true we don't know if your head was spining around like in 'The Exorcist' but it probably looked like that to the dealer's staff.
Get your attitude in line and things will likely be different at the dealer.
Being in the service business, I know that all my customers need the $ damage info up front in the form of at least a verbal quote. With the quote approved, my job is to do what I quoted. Then, there's no surprises and no arguments.
Of course, I'm not dealing with bikes nor with biker BS at any time, but a surprising number of my customers are riders or former riders.

I just inquired about a stage one kit (with slip-ons) for my 08 Vegas from my dealer. It was $650 for the kit, $100 for the re-mapping. You might as well say $800 total with taxes and everything. The bottom line is, Victory charges twice the amount they should for parts and accessories. Then, on top of that, the price the dealers charge for service and maintenance can vary from place to place. I don't think it's supposed to, but it does. Call around to different dealers in your state. Maybe you can get a better deal somewhere else that might make it worthwile to travel a little.

Sorry guys, my previous post with the 'attitude' remarks was for slickmick on a thread 'dealers to avoid'. However, I stand by my comments about service work, it's hard to please everyone.

Installed the drag pipes on my 07 KPT myself. It was a PITA, but I bought them on ebay...so dealer wouldn't install them. However, the tech was more than nice and applied the download at no charge. I say that it best to make friends with the guys in the service dept. They can make life so much easier.

Ihave been knownplace the keys to my business on the counter and suggest to the "customer" that they buy me out and give away whatever they want when it is their place when I get questioned aboutmy posted servicerates. Not the most tactful way of getting my point across but it works.

I wasn't really interested in customer-service tactics; I just wanted to know if you guys thought my dealer was giving me a good deal or not. Thanks to those who read the post and replied accordingly. Those who have businesses and didn't get the post probably won't be in business very long anyway...

The dealers in California charge between $95 & $110 per hour for service. Everyone is struggling and we all want a good deal but it's also important to keep our local dealers alive.

Ya it sucks. But it is what we have to deal with. I get a 10 - 15% discount on parts normally thru the VMC for dealers that honor that. It helps out some.

I'm at least 100 miles from my nearest dealer and they have been more than helpful for any service I need.

I deal with Delta Powersports in Lathrop,CA and Reno Cycle & Gear in Reno, NV. Bill in Reno has actually loaned me his bike on occasion when the work being done was back logged(Broken Belt then the weekend) You can't ask for better service than that!!

Delta accommodates me with an appointment and gets me in & out promptly & also will give me a loaner or a ride locally while I wait.

I want to see these dealers stick around so do my best to promote them and support them.
