As if overhead cams are some marvel of modern technology....
What about cams, air filter, exhaust, tuner, and tuning it?116 package (which is an impressive kit -- includes 60mm throttle bodies) costs $2500 and my dealer will do the whole install for a total of $3500.
Saw it earlier in this thread...I don't know who said $12,000.....
Well, I have to say that I am not impressed. You will be dropping 12 grand (including labor) to get minimal gains.
Sure, you can build it, but how long will it live? If you want big power, reliably, from a Harley you better have the crank beefed up (true/plug/weld/Timken bearings). It's a lot cheaper to do it up front than to fix it when it comes apart. You should check out some of the Fuel Moto and George Bryce builds using stock crankshafts. You'll be surprised.
What work was done to Rusty's bike ? You fellas are pretty even.I know I wear this out posting it, but If you listen, Rusty and I shift at the exact same time all the way down... both bikes are geared down the same percentage from stock.
See this is the part that bothers me. Supposedly the crank was designed to be lighter as to give harley that certain motor vibe. All in the name of reliability ?Sure, you can build it, but how long will it live? If you want big power, reliably, from a Harley you better have the crank beefed up (true/plug/weld/Timken bearings). Indian has a tune they install. You can spend from $250-500 on an high performance air filter. Exhaust....whatever you want. What about cams, air filter, exhaust, tuner, and tuning it?
Saw it earlier in this thread...
That bike was built from things that were laying around the shop. All he bought was the pistons, pipe, pulley, throttle body/intake, and clutch. It's high compression, 777 woods cams, Feuling lifters, 54mm TB... ported heads of unknown origin...What work was done to Rusty's bike ? You fellas are pretty even.
Stock crank? "Rusty's bike"That bike was built from things that were laying around the shop. All he bought was the pistons, pipe, pulley, throttle body/intake, and clutch. It's high compression, 777 woods cams, Feuling lifters, 54mm TB... ported heads of unknown origin...
Rusty had a 60 lb weight advantage, at the time I had about 4 more HP than he did.
I cut a little better light by .01
I had a better 60' by .029 so I was ahead at 60' by .030 (a little more than a bike length)
and I ran a quicker by .38 down the track as well, so 11.47 to his 11.88

Yes., and only 98 cubic inches...Stock crank? "Rusty's bike"
The attitude is, "They build motors EVERY DAY". If It blows up (which it certainly will now that he's spraying it) the bike will just get a bigger/better motor. There's a beefed and built 113" twin-cam sitting on the floor waiting for a bike to need a motor. That 98" 'spare parts engine' means nothing to Rusty, it was just a fun little project. All good till it comes apart. Sounds like he's more than prepared to take on the task even if it's continuous re-building. I get it though. He has the resources and he's a Harley guy. Know a few.
I'm really liking this. The upgrades are right on point. Emphasis on the exhaust. I like that very much. I'm also diggin the casual club style stance. I don't know if that was intentional, but I like that too.2006 FXD

Aluminum Swingarm, expensive piggy-back shocks, high dollar adjustable fork kit, and Roland Sands pipe...
it was definitely intentional in the spirit of Unknown Industries and stunt Harleys...I'm really liking this. The upgrades are right on point. Emphasis on the exhaust. I like that very much. I'm also diggin the casual club style stance. I don't know if that was intentional, but I like that too.
He doesn't go that often... intention doesn't create free time.@Half_Crazy I'm curious, how often does he go to the track? It actually sounds like a fair amount. Given that, having resources such as those at this disposal is crucial! And very cool. Racin' is 'Spensive!
AH yes, the whole "free time" thing. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of that lately. He doesn't go that often... intention doesn't create free time.
I don't Even Like the Indians, Love My 2013 CCT , Like the other guys said Spend $3000 on a Victory and you have a much better bikeThe 2020 116 would be the way to go. Like Harley .....Indian keeps stepping up so they have repeats. There will be plenty of good used Indians on the lot soon. Just like Harley.
But ..... with the new 120 hp motor with easy swap cams coming it will be interesting to see what happens.
That was probably me that said that. I'm getting ready to spend some on my wife's Magnum. Cams, Maximus, and Lloydz air kit. Has Honkers on it now. Plenty of decel popping to eliminate as well as heat !I don't Even Like the Indians, Love My 2013 CCT , Like the other guys said Spend $3000 on a Victory and you have a much better bike
