I sold a set of Kingpin rims to a gentleman in western Iowa(I live in eastern Wisconsin).
I need advice on the best way to ship these things. Should I box them? wrap them in bubble? Just shrink wrap?
UPS FedEx or USPS?
For those that have shipped rims or vendors that ship them on regular basis some advice would be appreciated.

I appreciate the offer but I doubt the cost of getting the rims to you would be much different than the rims to Sioux City.
I go to Des Moines(Ankeny) 1 or 2 times a year for work but I went about 2 weeks to early this year

I just sold the trunk off the wifes XCT to a guy in MA,used UPS very expensive but got to the buyer undamaged.UPS will pack them for you but expensive.

If you do not package them properly both will not have any liability to getting them there undamaged. Both are good..but costly.

UPS ,packed my trunk, like you say very expensive,

Bubble wrap. Put in box lined with half inch styrofoam boards. Fill up with packing peanuts. Send in separate boxes so they don't bang together. More damage is caused by multiple things in one box. Go UPS.

UPS wrapped a set of tins, charged me for insurance....then damaged them during shipment and refused insurance claim. I will never use UPS again...just saying.

When i shipped my trunk ,i took it to UPS ,told them i wanted X amount of insurance & for them to pack it. While i was talking to them my wife was taking pictures of the trunk.
They did say if the trunk was damaged they would stand good for the damage, thank God it got to its destination undamaged..

Can I be so bold as to ask what you mean by expensive? I'm trying to gauge how much shipping is going to be for the buyer.

We build "crates" for items like this. 1x2's, paneling, Styrofoam block for lining and bubble around the parts. Heavy cardboard to seperate them- It's much cheaper to ship one box vs. two. Shipped UPS.

Extreme? Yes. Damage? Never... So far.

And to the folks that UPS is trying to screw on damage claims- You MUST be persistant. Might even take a photo of how it's wrapped before and after taping it all up.

Key to shipping is preventing movement within yhe package. 35 years with the USPS I'd recommend the postal service. It will be cheaper and more likely not to damage. Peanuts, foam bubble rap all work but you must prevent movement. Weigh the item and check the price with all your options. Don't forget insurance.

I was able to ship through a smaller regional carrier called SpeeDee for around $20. I see their trucks all the time in the area but never paid much attention to them. They had a drop terminal about 5 minutes from my house, pickup would've been an extra $6 or so.
So if the big guys seem expensive look around some of the smaller regional carriers if they fall within a zone. This time is worked out quite well for both of us.
