As stated, trying to change the oil but very little is coming out. Naturally I figured (after a little panic) I was running with no oil but the dip stick showed normal levels.

I've tried rocking the bike, putting it up on a lift, kick stand but all I've gotten out is about 1/2 - 3/4 quart. I have the dip stick out so there is no vacuum, tried blowing air through the plastic spout that comes with the oil change kits, I hear the air working it's way out.

When I put the filter back on, start the bike up, shut it off, then take the filter out again a touch more oil drains. We're talking ounces though. It's almost like just the oil in the filter and a bit more drains.

I put a coat hanger in there, seemed to go in several inches with little issue?

After all this the dip stick still shows just above the 'low' indicator.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Did you remove the drain plug on the bottom of the crank case. Just removing the oil filter will not drain the oil.
The drain plug is removed by a metric allen wrench. It is a 6mm. An allen socket works best.
The drain plug is towards the left side of the crank case so that when you remove it the oil will drain while the bike is leaning on the kick stand.

I hope this can be my one mulligan.

I changed the oil 3 times last year no issues... put it on a new jack this time which covered the drain plug. Besides lol, I'm releived. Thanks redvic

Remember, you're supposed to drain the oil on the side stand.

That's the first "oops" of the season! Sometimes we overlook the obvious. Glad it turned out to be something literally so simple as that and not something worse. I was actually picturing in my head the drain bolt out, dipstick removed, and oil filer spun off...yet nothing coming out. First thing that came to mind. And what I pictured was oil that had literally gelled up and turned to a glob of goop. I couldn't imagine not pulling the drain plug first, hence my train of thought. I like to unscrew drain bolt first as it lets the oil pour out at a slightly slower rate and doesn't splash everywhere. Once it's flowing I unscrew the dipstick and let the oil get to a slow drip. Then I spin filter off and let the remaining oil come to a slow and drip till its done. Seems to work well that method and results in a pretty mess-free situation overall. Works especially well on my Silverado truck cuz once I pull that drain plug , the flood gates open up...especially if I have the oil full cap off. Too messy that way, for me anyways. Like I said, glad you figured it out and it was a simple oversight and not something more involved. Happy riding!

The important thing, all is good now. :)

Sue always used the kill switch when she would park a bike. Of course I would jump on the bike and it wouldn't do crap. Check everything but the switch everytime. I was at a dealer in FL. and a guy was there with his whole family to pickup his brand new ride. Family took pics as he sat on it. They and the saleman left him there. He went to start the bike and nothing. Panic across his face. He's going through his check list and I walked over flipped his kill switch, he smiled and we both had a good laugh.
