Well I’ve worn out my oem left hip and doc says a replacement is inevitable, maybe just maybe but probably not can get another year tops out of it due to severe arthritis and few other medical terms but basically there’s no cushion left and the ball of my femurs riding bone to bone in my pelvic socket. I’ve been absolutely miserable for couple years whenever standing or walking far’s required and mostly miserable all other times. I exercise & stretch few times a day just to maintain my current $hitty existence. My question is if there is any supplements / vitamins that actually helps with arthritis. Oh yea gotta get an mri next cause thinks I’ve got some torn stuff up in there too, sure is fun playing outside but can get painful sometimes

Have metal in both legs, titanium in the left and stainless in the right, half the meniscus in my right knee and none in the left. I use glucosamine and full spectrum CBD. Keeps me going for the present but 2023 if I'm still around going for the left aftermarket knee first. Supposedly the success rate for hip replacement is much better than the knee.
Glad to have made it this far but doesn't seem to be quite as much fun as it used to be. Why is that?
Don't do cold or wet rides anymore 35 degrees is the best I can do these days and don't do many miles at that temp.
70 and above and clear skies seems about right at this stage.

That was a bit of a give away, so I went and checked your pic gallery. Yep, rigid frame Sporty back there in the rear view mirror.
On my mates experience, hip replacements do have a better success rate than knees. I've been lucky, my tibeal plateau fracture (off road Sportster) healed up without leaving a bone ridge in the knee joint bearing surface.
Do you have the full 100mm of rear wheel travel in that Hammer?

Can you still get replacement parts for a model that old?

Glad I opened up this thread. Absolutely amazing the amount of miles you have put on your CCT with this condition. Wow, this has to suck, and you are quite young for this to happen. First, for arthritis, to reduce inflammation these are good. Turmeric and Glucosamine Chondroitin. Tart cherries are best but sweet cherries have benefits also. Traverse City (Lake Michigan) tart cherries are the best. You were in the cherry farming area this past summer where your bike broke down. Tart Cherry juice is good. You may look online for other items. However, if you have bone on bone with that hip, I suspect the only cure will be hip replacement. Perhaps you can hold off surgery till next November, and then be ready to ride again come spring. Only you will know. Success rate of hip surgery is very high. Man, best of luck to you.

where your bike broke down.
Uhh hmmm, was only a flat tire lol, I had to google the benefits of cherries & wow they're a wonder food. Honestly, it's because of my knee / hip that we put so many miles on the bike last couple years, whether sitting propped up in a chair or sitting on the xct it hurts just about the same so I'm riding, least am in a good place mentally while on the bike compared to being confined to a recliner or laying flat on my back with pillows propping my leg up holding it still & making me loose my mind. I'm 44 so the longer I can wait the better but it is what it is, I'm no stranger to getting refurbished ie 2 shoulder surgeries, 1 knee, dislocated elbow ( put whole radius ( forearm ) up into the the top of my bicep, yes! that one hurt a lot!!!! ) broken foot, ribs, hyper flexed knees, multiple sprains everywhere, a few concussions and many many other bumps / knocks along the way. Gots some arthritis & herniated disks in back & neck too. Between three wheelers / dirt bikes / quads and the mishaps of an active country lifestyle, doing the normal manual labor that comes with thriving in rural areas it's all just part of living. The fewer the medications the better, I greatly appreciate everyone's advice & am willing to try anything, thanks everyone

Not that far along yet, Brother. But I was downing Advils for years for the old injuries until I tried some Turmeric for a couple days, just cause they were there with the vitamins. Well damn that was a couple years ago and I rarely take a Advil now. Only if I have been pushing the ole bod hard as a preventive.

I was a total skeptic and ignored Turmeric for years, but it works for me…

I’ve mentioned in the past one of the main reasons I moved to Arizona was because of my arthritis. And I can honestly say since I moved here it’s totally disappeared and I never thought I’d feel this good again without pain. What can I say the dry climate makes a huge difference. But my arthritis got pretty bad the last 4 to 5 years back in Chicago. I started taking CBD oil and I got to say it actually helped. It took about a month for it to get into my system but the pain definitely became more tolerable. Just a thought for an alternative. I couldn’t take the oil with THC in it because of being drug screened as a truck driver. So I took it without but people I know that take it with the THC in it see it works quick and much better.

Stupid question but is it a pill, a suave, a liquid you drink? What form does it come in?

Have it replaced! Why put up with all the discomfort that goes with holding out? I had onedone, but the other is in need as well. Been doing well with corto-steroid injections in the groin area. For me good relief for 6-12 months. But, as another recommended Glucosamine and Full spectrum CBD oil has helped as well.

Both of my knees are shot from motorcycle wrecks, car wrecks, laying carpet and walking on power plant concrete for 42 years. Doctor said they were wore out but not bad enough to replace , in constant pain 24 hours a day but no,,, not bad enough yet. A friend told me he uses Osteo Bi-Flex and it helped him so I tried it a couple years ago and by golly it works. When I take those horse pills my knees don't hurt and I can do whatever I want,, IE: walk around swap meets , car shows whatever and have zero pain. Give them a shot ,, they sure helped me. Warning though,, these pills are huge ,, I have a hell of a time swallowing them .

Maybe it is time to find a different doctor. My gosh knee replacement is a simple procedure these days. My wife had each replaced a couple years apart and I think the operation took no more than 1.5 hours, maybe only an hour each time. Takes a couple months of at home therapy. Thanks for the tip. I was wondering about Osteo Bi-Flex. I am going to give it a try for my Spinal Stenosis, which is much better than at this time last year.

I greatly enjoy the aftermarket parts in my motorcycle. My wife's aftermarket parts from her back surgery have done wonderfully. And other aftermarket parts on some people seem great. A former co-worker had hip replacement surgery a few months ago and he's doing fine. One of my brothers has two aftermarket knees and he's never felt better.

Go for the aftermarket parts as soon as you can. They seem to work quite well.

It's good to read results posted on turmeric. My wife just picked up a tub and got me starting on them. I don't have the quantity of injuries some have had. Mine has been back issues including a couple surgeries over the last 40 years. I'm holding off a fusion until no choice as a buddy had one and it just made it worse. Best disk I have is at around 30% per last MRI.

Can you feel any difference? I think the Turmeric & osteo biflex was helping, even if only slightly. Hope your feeling up to and able for whatever daily activities that's involved within daily living.

I have had both of my hips replaced, and I learned after the 1st one that holding off as long as you can is dumb. I didn't hesitate on the 2nd one. All that pain was gone instantly. They had me up walking the same day of the surgery both times. The only pain after the surgery was from the surgery itself, and that didn't last long, and wasn't as bad as the hip pain before. I only took 4 pain pills after each surgery.

Wife had a knee replaced 8 years ago and she is doing pretty well with it, some problems once in a while but overall she is good. I have had back surgery twice, second time in 89 they took bone from my hip and fused 4 vertebrae and put a titanium rod screwed to them I do really good unless I do something I shouldn't like trying lift something heavy or bend over for an extended time without any support.

Just curious if you guys take the bottles recommended 2 ea of both the turmeric & osteo biflex? I have been for few weeks & ehhh maybe helping some. Is still lil early to feel full results & holy crap they huge

Lil update, I’ve been faithfully taking the turmeric curcumin about 4 weeks, the oestio biflex for about 3 weeks and I can honestly feel a small to moderate difference. I’ve adjusted my exercise / stretching program so it’s not the same ole same & helps me stay motivated. I’ve also been more conscious of my diet which helps relieving pain by not carrying that extra load. It’s still a struggle but my hip / knee pain has lessened somewhat over this past week. Usually, most days my pain level was at a 9-10 ( literally tears running down my face by workdays end ) now is down to a 7-8 ( hurts like hell but I can bare it ) I pace myself, I’ve modified the way I walk / stand so I’m using my leg / pelvic / core muscles and not settling my bodies weight into my hips sockets or putting all my weight on my knees. I’m very excited to have finally gotten in to see a knowledgable, very reputable & sought after orthopedic surgeon on Fri March 4th at Orthopedic One with Dr. Sochachi. They are a sports medicine group and have done work on many professional athletes, if a total hip replacement truly IS my best option I want one of the best surgeons doing the replacement ( is one of the very, very few things my cheapassery will allow ) Btw, the main risk of turmeric is stomach bleeding, like with many other supplements / medications you should take it with food. ( not taking with food is what causes ulcers / bleeding is what they say ) The turmeric is a great anti inflammatory but has similar bleeding risks as ibuprofen. Both turmeric & ostieo biflex’s recommended dose is 2 pills per day, I take one each in the morning and the second of each in the evening. I found all four at the same time was just too much and caused major stomach discomfort but spreading them out and taking near consumption of food works fantastic for me. Thank you everyone for your responses, your knowledge, experiences, insight & hindsight have been invaluable & will help many others.

I am very happy our advice has done some good. Now, hopefully, this Dr. Sochachi will be the real McCoy that takes all this excruciating pain away. Please let us/me know about the appointment next Friday. I too spread out my vitamin and supplements throughout the day, 4 different times. Modifying your walk - now this is interesting. Maybe on the funny side or rolling ones eyes, but I too have tried, not very successfully to modify mine. My knees are fine so I hoped I could take pressure off the lower spine where my stenosis (narrowing of the spinal canal leading to irritated sciatic and associated nerves are). I wanted to modify landing on the heel of the foot first, which is how humans walk. So, I looked to the Sasquatch walk. They have a very unique walk, that is darn near impossible to emulate, but it so natural and graceful and athletic that those witnessing at close distance state it is like they are floating. This can be seen in the Patterson/Gimlin film of 1967, especially the stabilized and enhanced versions of it. They walk not upright but with a forward lean angle. They land on the front/ball and toes of their feet. They do not have an arch like humans, but more of a flat and slightly rounded and padded bottom. Instead of an arch they have a hinge across the width of their feet known as the mid-tarsal break. The pushing off of their front part of the foot will cause the substrate to show up pushed up in the mid part of their foot. They also do not walk with a straddle like humans do with separate right and left tracks. Instead, theirs's is a straight line and of course much longer step length (Patterson/Gimlin female Bigfoot was 42 inches at a hurried pace). Also the human leg comes back at about a 51 degree angle, and theirs is 73 or more degrees. Again this can be seen in the Patterson/Gimlin film where the step brings her foot so far back, you can see the whole bottom of her foot. All this information is supplied by Dr. Jeffery Meldrum, Professor of Anatomy and Anthropology at Idaho State University, who specializes in morphology and locomotion of primates. He currently has over 300 casts from all over the country, and is frequently interviewed due to his expertise.
Anyhow It is impossible to walk like this for a human in a natural motion, so I gave up. Well I can walk so I land more flat footed. Best of luck with Dr. Sochachi and do let us know.

Tart cherries sound interesting
Not too many tarts around these days but.
I get a bit of arthritis and take MSM every morning and Turmeric with cracked pepper and manuka honey in warm milk at bedtime.
Helps with the circulation in my legs.
Used to wake around 4am with severe pain in my lower legs, the Turmeric drink stopped that for the last 6 months, Doctor reckons that's a coincidence.... yeah sure doc!
What else do I take?
Well a mixture of stuff to boost my immune system.
In a cup
2 teaspoons MSM (MethylSulfonyMethane) I buy online or vets supplies ( they use it on horses)
Add 1/2 teaspoon Citric Acid powder.
Add 1/8 teaspoon Magnesium Citrate powder and half teaspoon of L-lysine powder.
That concoction then add pure water to 3/4 fill the cup.
Warning it tastes dreadful but hey we are tough aren't we.
With that I wash down half an aspirin,
Some B vitamin(Choline and Inositol), a garlic capsule (non odor ) some Saw Palmetto and Nettle root powder capsules for my prostate.
A Zinc tablet, a Selenium tablet.
I down that concoction every morning.
And take another dose of the prostate herbs at night too.
Just bought some Neem leaf powder but it tastes really really terrible so I may need to put it in a capsule.
It's possible to overdo the Neem powder but evidently in combo with turmeric it's a strong anti cancer med from thousands of years ago.
Well now you know my secret recipe for eternal youth.:angel4:

I will research a few of these items, especially the MSM .I take my vitamins and supplements at various times during the day, always with food or after a meal. Sometimes I take some magnesium powder (helps to calm muscles) and I take with apple cider vinegar with mother. Had to laugh about Dr. thinks it's a coincidence. I have gotten this reaction also when they review my chart. However, at 66, I can run circles around my doctors, all who are 20 to 30 years younger.

None of the above requires a prescription from a quack.
I take no prescription meds at all and I'm 65 in April , Universe willing
Stopped alcohol 23 years ago, it almost killed me, luckily just sent me mad instead , but I've recovered mostly.
Would've been dead decades ago otherwise.
Riding motorcycles is my other secret as well as having a good woman who loves the bikes too.

Just reading through this and ....... Damn!....... I'm going home tonight and spend an hour thanking God that I still have all my parts, no new holes, and take nothing more than vitamins. I feel fortunate (severely understated) by comparison to all the ills you guys seem to have. At 68 I had no idea I was holding up so well.

I've been following Dr. Wallach for over 20 years.
Ever heard of the "Pig Pak"?

Pig Pack by Dr Wallach Youngevity.net
Dr. Joel Wallach (first heard about him in the early 90s - dead drs don't lie.) Website is Critical Health News. Can be heard every 6 weeks on Coast to Coast Am for 2 hours. His partner Pharmacist Ben Fuchs can additionally be heard every six weeks on same radio show. Ben is easier to understand, he doesn't talk as fast as Joel.

Well I've worn out my oem left hip and doc says a replacement is inevitable, maybe just maybe but probably not can get another year tops out of it due to severe arthritis and few other medical terms but basically there's no cushion left and the ball of my femurs riding bone to bone in my pelvic socket. I've been absolutely miserable for couple years whenever standing or walking far's required and mostly miserable all other times. I just saw this and haven't read any responses so...

I went 28 years with bone on bone knee. They used me for a video, very short on YouTube from Mountain View Medical Group, showing me kicking easily after a few weeks.

I suffered and couldn't afford the replacement until 2018, accident was on ship in 1990. My solution, which was highly praised, is swimming.

Neutral buoyancy is key!!! Taking the weight off and getting motion. I developed a callisthenics routine along with easy swimming, treading. Started just treading water for an hour. No stopping, holding onto anything, no standing. Always motion and give it a couple weeks to start then progress as much as possible. Take your time, it'll build in many aspects. Diet! Research foods that cause inflammation, stop/avoid eating them. I still have a back full of arthritis. Dr flinched when he looked at my test results and asked How are you even moving??? Explained
my theory was the pressure of the water would compress me enough to allow greater blood flow with minimal pain. Dr's and therapist said brilliant especially while they watched me build. Stopped taking ALL pain meds and kept moving forward. Discipline is the answer. I've been out there swimming in 26 degrees. Outside but heated pool but often down to 70's water. I met a woman trying for 2 years to get BMI down enough to get her knee, and then hip replaced.

She followed my lead, she's 60 and big, and got the knee done in 2.5 months, but could've been sooner. went in last week for second surgery. My program works. Discipline!!!

I now use an ebike while pool is closed. Motion, motion, motion is the answer for taming uncle arthritis.

I use.... MyFitnessPal app and it really helped me see my balance of nutrients. Very important to balance your diet for health and or weight. I'm man sized but getting weight down matters on all joints. Curb partying because alcohol makes us think what we're not and always ends up aggravating the problem. Also inhibits the bodies natural ability to heal and endure.

PM me if you'd like to talk. If no swimming available I also do a Tai chi stretching exercise. Very simple but even with my Buddha belly I can get palms to floor now. Really important because it helps develop your lungs too. Oxygen really helps healing and positive attitude. I break 4000cm on my spirometer. That's equivalent to a 30 year old male at 6'6". I'm 5'6" and 62. Proofs in the pudding.

I had to go through a few hours course before knee for them to explain the surgery. I was with several others getting hip replacements. When nurse heard my solution and could see results, through records, she recommended everybody might want to try this, it works.

I hope this helps. Stay strong brother.

Well, was seen by an orthopedic doctor and he confirmed a total hip replacements needed. ( never mind the bulging disk 3-4 up from bottom for now ) Set me up with a doctor on Tues the 8th that’ll do the procedure. Should get the timeline of when he can slice me open, hacksaw the old $hit out, drill, hammer & screw the new parts in!!!! So odd being this damn excited to see doctors, been miserable for way too long and found out that Dr. Sochachi is more of their knee / shoulder guy so will see their hip wizard Dr. Biyani. I hope he just serviced his magic wand cause I’m ready. If your outta graham crackers go ahead and enjoy you perverts lol
