I have an 09' KP Tour that needs a new rear tire..Ive also noticed a rubbing or friction type noise at very low speed in the rear wheel.
Does this indicate a bad bearing and if so is this common? What other issues could be causing the noise. Its not
noticeable except at very low speed coming to a stop or rolling slowly.
thanks

It could be a bearing, but the Kingpin is notorious for having the rear brake hang up. I am on my 3rd set of rear brakes on my bike, and it only has 16000 miles on it. If you notice it more after the bike is hot,I would put my money on brake drag.

Let us know what you find out.
Thanks,
Rob

Is there a known fix for the brake drag? I know the rear brake is very effective on the KP, that's what I attributed the heavy wear to. I have about 6,000 miles on my rear pads and they are shot. Fronts have a lot more than that.

I do not know of a fix. I wish I did because I don't like the wear on the pads, and it can't be helping performance and mileage if I am riding around with the rear brake on. My Pin burned through it's first set of pads in 7500 miles. I replaced with Brembo pads from the dealer, and pulled them at about 15K. I put new front and rears on at that time, and I used DP pads. The Brembos are spendy, and they make dust like no one's business.

My bike makes "squeaky" sounds from the rear after riding. As I am putting her in the garage, you can definately hear it. It has done it since I got the bike, so I have just came to terms with the quirk.

As others have said here, the belt might need adjusted as well. I just had my rear tire replaced, and made sure they had it right.Good luck, and let us know whart you find.

Had New AVON Cobras installed this weekend..the technician said the bearings looked good and the brake pads arent rubbing but will need to be replaced soon..as far as the tires go I am really pleased with the way they roll..no "tracking" like the DUNLOP Elites - rides like a new bike..now lets see how long they last......

My 08 KP has made that sound from the first year I bought it new. I've had four different mechanics try to eliminate the sound. The belt is rubbing. Never got a good answer why. When I change drive belts I'm going to have the rear wheel aligned and maybe throw a new pulley on there. This is how I solved the problem based on forum in-puts. WD-40 Specialist PTFE DRY Lube.....I repeat DRY. (Walmart) Also I take wax (candle) and rub it on the outer edges of the belt. Sound is gone for quite awhile.

The only real fix is loader mufflers! And as to the brakes I will be closing in on 60000 and my back brake is fine!
But I don, t slow down much!
I have a 09 pin and to be very honest if I listen I hear al sorts of wierd sounds , this bike make many different noises and I now just listen for new ones! The belt thing is usually the culprit!

I have the same issue on my 2013 hammer. Only does it when I'm coming to a stop. Let me know what you find out.

I've had the wheel bearing go in my 08 KP with 41,000 KMs on it, heard some noise and it wasn't long before I had to pull over to check, had someone follow me they could see wheel wobbling, thought it was brakes at first but barkes were fine, pertty much like new after 41,000 Kms.
