This is a 2013 Cross Country.
I talked the owner out of the Victory stage1. Why? Because an aftermarket stage1 is SO MUCH BETTER!

Here is the dyno graph, I'm only showing Torque for clarity. The Blue lines are "as delivered" 2013 XC, stone stock.
The Green line shows a typical Victory Stage1 kit. Not this guys bike, but I've done enough to know this is typical.
The Red Lines shows my preferred setup: Adam Bomb slip-ons, Lloydz filter, Lloydz timing wheel, Power Commander5. The Red line is the "after" graph on the same 2013. 20 more torque over stock @2800rpms, 10 more than the Victory kit. And more throttle response, almost no popping, runs cooler, and better fuel milage. Cost: $1475 (all parts, labor, dyno tune, tax).

That's good. What about the Judge?

Bring it over and we'll run it through it's paces!
Really though, the steel frame bikes are a completely different animal, and the recipe is completely different.
OK so its different, thats fine, but how would you compare say a X-Bow with anything aftermarket you would suggest is better? I have to know that, and I dont live anywhere near your dealership, so your answer is valuable here. I like the RPW slash, but its hotter, no sheilds, sounds way too loud etc etc.

Well if it has Victory written on it then it is not a "Performance" pipe. so we can go back and forth all day about Vic Swepts, Drags, Shotguns, Xbows, etc - but in the end none of them will compare to some of the better aftermarket performers Like RPW's, Bassani, etc.

So the x bike has better intake so you can build it better and faster than with a steel framed bike?
Actually the other way around. Think of an engine as basically an air pump. The more you can suck in and push out, the more power you can make. On the Vision and Cross bike (alum frame) the intake is incorporated in the frame. Changing the filter is about all you can do, besides superchargers or turbo chargers, to get more air in. On the steel frame bikes you can rip out the factory air intake and replace it with an S&S or Torque Tubes. Your not as limited as you are on the aluminum frames.

Why is a 106 in a steel frame so different from the X bike?
Because the intakes and pipes are so radically different. So I may tell you that a slip-in filter and slip-on exhaust work's well on a Vision or Cross, but that is not the case with the steel frame. It's apples and oranges.

For the steel frame bikes do you have a recommened set up? For example, any quality pipes, PCV, and S&S or Lloyd'sair box?

Yes, but to make it more difficult my recipe changes from 03-07 and 08-up bikes. All have a good pipe, good intake and good controller though. Just because one thing worked one ones guys 2005 Vegas doesn't mean its the right combo for a 2010 Vegas, or a 2012 Vision.

That is why its important to work with a good builder, and let him know what you have now and what you are looking to get when choosing performance parts.

I agree with you stage 1 sucks but you are comparing a set up that is over twice the cost to be better how about a set up that costs close to the same? if stage 1 is now 699 then a set up that would cost that much then lets see a fair comparo...

Agreed. Two points though.
1) Knowing that stage 1 sucks in the first place has just saved you $700. Now you have $700 more to spend LOL!!!
2) The $1475 quoted included the labor, tune, and install, AND Iowa sales tax. Depending on what your dealer charges you may have $1000 invested once the labor and tax are included in the Stage1. So maybe the difference is about $400ish for all the extra benefits. Is it worth maybe $400 more to you?

One more point - the $1475 included a Power Commander and dyno tune. A VFCIII with some basic settings done at home would yield similar results and shave $350 off the total (between the cost of the units and the dyno).

If I had a dollar for every set of stage 1 pipes I've removed.......oh wait.

Its funny because Kyle of KMC Powersports and I were talking at the AVR about stg1 filters. Both of us have a huge box full of used stage1 filters that we swapped out when Lloyd came out with his. I probably have 20 or more in stock then I started throwing them away. I put a batch of 3 of them on E-Bay for $5 - couldn't sell them.
