Hey all, I had my bike out a couple of weeks ago to let it run idle for a bit. While doing a once over I noticed a broken spoke on my back wheel, then I noticed the one next to it was broken as well. I have 8500 miles on the bike and was a bit surprised to see that considering I try my damnedest to dodge pot holes and other bumps in the road. The factory is paying to replace and relace the spokes fortunately but I was still a little disappointed. Anyone else have this issue?

I promise that I baby this bike. It's not to say that I perhaps did hit a pothole that could have done it. I just don't recall hitting any so large as to break spokes. It's getting all fixed up by the dealer, I just really don't recall hitting anything large enough to cause that. Just thought it a little odd.

I had spokes go on a Suzuki once, it started with one and as I was miles from home I had to ride very slowly and carefully. I arrived at my destination traveling at 5 to 10 mph (2up) with 5 spokes broken all around the same area. I think it was not far from the wheel calapsing. Bit of an adventure that. I repaired the wheel with new spokes of another bike my dad had kicking around the garden (non runner) and never had a problem with them after that. Mind you the same bike had a shock absorber snap, but that's another story. It's just you mentioning the spoke reminded me of that Suzuki, that's all.

Hey!! It happened to me ar around 28 000km. I check the bike often and all of a sudden, 2 spoke are loose on the back wheel (small rivet just snapped off). I also try to avoid most potholes but Quebec's road arent easy. My friendly dealer replaced it whitout any issue. In fact, warranty got me a whole new rear wheel assembly. Couldnt complain either. They ordered it and in a week. I was up n ready. In the meantime, i did over 600km wihtout any issue as well. You must stay prudent and watch it often just in case it gets worse. Of course, drive normally and avoid unproper behavior for the situation. Sad thing is according to my dealer, Victory doesnt sell spokes individually. As of a few months ago, you could only order the rear wheel assembly at a cost of 1000$. My dealer comforted me by saying he would find a solution if it ever happens again. He told me recently that he kept a bordwalk wheel with same issue for keeper and use the spokes if need be. Hope this is helpful

That's a good dealer you have there Highballer

i wonder if it didn't have anything to do with your riding but rather the wheel got slightly out of true and then the difference in pressure caused the spokes to break. I've had this happen to the spikes on my bicycle. it was sitting in the garage and the spokes just snapped on their own because the pressure was not equal all the way around. the bike shop said that what sometimes happens is you'll get damage to a spoke from riding from a rock or something you don't even feel which will cause one spoke to weaken and snap, then it causes a chain reaction with other spokes.

Indeed, there is multiple causes. It can get hard or painful to pinpoint. If its just one spoke or two, I would not worry and simply start looking for a solution. It is a 60 spoke wheel afterall. People on dirt bikes will run temporarily on much less. And yes Rockster, my dealer is great so far but my bike was under the 1yr complete coverage. After that my additional 4 yr limited will kick in.

This is an issue well known by Victory! There are a fiew cases in europe where the riders had accidents due to lose spokes.
I had myself problems with lose spokes on my Highball when i bougth the bike last april. At this time it had about 3500 miles on the clock. My local motorcycle shop fixed it and used locktide. No problems since.
Lucky you found it early enough.

I washed my highball today and noticed 5 broken spokes and one with a crack in it near the hub. My normal warranty just ran out. I was looking at my extended warranty paper work and low and behold it doesn't cover spokes. This sucks cause the bike is just over a year old. I have already had to replace the bearings on the same wheel. I haven't spoke to the dealer yet but will tomorrow. I just can't see paying $1000+ for a new rear wheel. Sorry to high jack the thread.

5 seems to be a lot in my book. I rode hundreds of km with 1 broken and never had an issue. If your dealer is remotely competent and if you are respectful, he should do the job for you for a little cost. Mine was under warranty but my dealer told me if it were to happen again, he would take them from an existing wheel and only charge me the labor, which is fine with me. Of course its not a huge gift since individual spokes cannot be that expensive but its a better deal than buying the whole rear wheel assembly. Within 30 minutes my mechanic had changed the spoke and quickly checked the other ones for truing or whatever the word is for checking and tightening spokes. Do keep us informed.

I did a little research and found a spoke kit Victory part #2204924. I found the part # on victory's website. One website I looked at that sold OEM parts (motosport.com) had it listed for $22. So it might not be so bad. I am going by the dealership on my way home to see what they say. Worst case I'll buy the kit and have a indie shop do it.

If something of that matter exists, it is brand new because as of last year there was not kit or spokes available individually. I just messaged Vic on facebook to know more about that part number as my dealer had no idea more than what it says on the parts guide. I'll keep you guys posted.

I ended up taking mine to the dealership and they're fixing it as we speak. Victory sent a new set of spokes and they're paying to have it relaced for me. The only cost to me is the wheel removal labor. I would have preferred for it all to be covered but I was past my 1 year warranty and it's not covered by the extended warranty unfortunately. I am glad they're fixing it though. The dealer said if it would have happened during the riding season here, Victory probably would have paid to just give me a whole new back wheel. D'oh!

I'm pretty sure a "set" means 2 spokes so be careful.

UPDATE: So went to the dealer found out it is still in warranty for a couple more weeks. You are correct witchdoctor there are 3-4 spokes in a kit according to the service guy. Through them the kit is $60+ then labor. They came and picked her up this afternoon and hopefully will be fixed in a reasonable time frame. Thanks for all the feed back. ~Mike

There's something to be said for the Judge wheels they offer as an alternate on the 2014 High-Balls. Might not be as 'nostalgic' but darn worry free by comparison I guess, and still don't detract too terribly from the cool white-walls.

Looks like somewhere around $800-900ish swap, then sell off the spoke wheels.Dunno what else (spacers etc) would have to be changed out but the wheels can be had for $380ish each depending on where you shop.

Makes me go hmmmmmmmm
