This is what I don't get guys on goldwings all claim 12 to 16,000 on Avon cobras none of them bitching about burning them up. That bikes way heavier then cc cct magnums. All raving about sticky ok that's a fact. I don't get it I just picked my magnum up today and had Avon cobras put on cause the oem E3,s suck. I just gauged them at 5/32 rear 4/32 front this Friday I'm leaving for cali somewhere around 6g,s in a 16 day run. I'm gonna give them a shot and see. First thing I noticed was left out of dealer response definitely noticeable difference. But time will tell

Ok guys I'm home from 2nd trip out west as you know I put these Avon cobras on right before I left for my second trip out west . Just measured both front and rear tires both of them are sitting at 4/32,s exactly 6187 miles in them. I ran one day in the rain on this trip that was a godsend and I got to say I'm thoroughly impressed with the grip on these tires in the twisties rain whatever . I don't see why I shouldn't get 10,000 out of this back tire unless this thing just disintegrates in the next 2000 miles even if I only get 9000 out of the back i'm sold this is my new tire . i'm more than happy to give up a couple of bucks for the security of how this tire handles in the dry in the rain I'll keep you posted we'll see how long it lasts

Avon it is I have about 8200 on them since I put them on in July a lot of twisty canyons plus 2 up and a few hard running 800 mile days in some 100 deg heat . Front gages 4/32 was 5 when new rear between 3 and 4/32 also 5 when new. I’m also running a magnum and I run air pressure a little higher then most I run 45 rear 40 front. One of my brothers spoke with a Avon rep and was told run them higher they will last longer. As far as rain I pretty much run in the rain like I do in the sun as long as I’m not in any traffic. They bite hard rain or shine they are quieter ride better hands down over oem Dunlop’s . I had them break out on me twice in the rain NFG ! I’ve also run commanders on my Harley not a Bad tire but not a Avon for sure. Thru the 34 yrs I’ve been on baggers and running a lot of touring miles I’ve tried quite a few brands including continentals I’m easily gonna get 10g out of them and for me that’s kool. After that I scrap them anyway . 2/32 I tossem I run to hard cant get the peace of mind I need when rollin hard. Be interested in hearing what you think also to get a matched set your gonna have to run bias no radials for 21” front

You have to go 185 you can’t get the 180 in a bias to match the front bias that’s what I had to do. It’s just slightly taller you will see a slight change in what you register milage wise it’s about 3 miles less per 100 miles I tested it on interstate mile markers more then once. No clearance issues at all on back fender

Michelin Commander is that same size and I have been running them for awhile now. If I could get the same amount of mileage or more out of the Avon it would be worth the try. I have broken loose before with the Michelins in the rain and now I take it a little easier thru the turns now. I've found as long as I keep to the recommended speed for the turn (in rain) I never have an issue.
I had the same issue with oem Dunlop I ran thru Montana in the rain last summer we got hit for about 200 miles I was thoroughly impressed with the avon

I know you are talking about the Avon here, but given that it is a 185, like the Michelin, I never had a issue with clearance with the fender, but have you checked the clearance at the swing arm? Here is a picture of my bike with a Commander 2 on it, there isn't a half inch clearance between the swing are and the tire, I haven't had an issue, but have heard of others that have had it rub. Also I'm going to Alaska in July and I'm concerned about mud or a stone on the dirt/gravel portions of the trip jamming up in this close clearance. Just for what it's worth.
About 8200 on it now 2up Chicago to Cali and more no clearance issues anywhere at this point. Actually the Avon cobra I run is a 180/65 whic is not wider just a bit taller works great

Like I stated prior 2 up loaded down running thru Nevada a nd California deserts 105 to 110 temps on some days no issues are the talking about a certain brand @bikendad or any of the them that are slightly taller. I got a magnum selection very limited due to 21" rim but these Avon cobras are the best tire I've ever rolled on . Anybody running these Avon's have any issues loaded 2 up running with these Avon's ?

Yeah gotta say first I’ve heard of it when I had them put on last July my dealer said a lot of others were running them. I don’t get the rubbing thing but as I said earlier 2up loaded down with 5 changed of clothes each full leathers helmets raingear oil and tools I have no rubbing anywhere. The height increase is so minimal I can’t figure where anybody’s running. Well I’m gonna be due again before to long and everyone running them I hear of swears by them also. In the heat I ran them in in the speeds I was running with the weight I had I don’t know what else to say but now I’m wondering . The other issue is finding a front and rear match for the magnum minimal options available
