As a lifelong Alaska resident I feel the need to jump in here with a few facts. If you come up the Alaska highway and go to Fairbanks, then Anchorage and finally Seward, you will not leave a paved road. You can tour many places all over the state and still be on a paved road. The Alaska highway is completely paved now from Dawson, (has been for many years). Construction areas will always be a problem however. The Dalton highway is a different animal. Many folks ride up here on Harleys, and other cruisers(Vic's), and tour the state without ever leaving a paved road and see a lot beautiful scenery. Cell service is available on most of the major highways although there are large area without service. Gas is available with no more than 50 to 75 miles between stops. To summarize - if you really want an adventure, go up the Dalton hwy. If you just want a great trip with much of the same scenery if not better, stick to the highway system. Alaska highways #1, #2 and #3 are all you need. It all depends on how much of an adventure you want.

Yes - your girl Sarah was our mayor for a while a few years back. Since she quit in the middle of her term as governer many of us don't have the same fondness for her as we once did - lol She has a home a few miles me, but she's never up here anymore. She bought a place near Phoenix!
