Good day all. I have a 2013 CCT that I bought at the end of January. I've been reading up on the Loyds timing wheel. I am very interested in the benefits that it brings. I believe it is like $170 dollars with the gasket. If you have one or have tried one, what are your thoughts on it? Are the benefits worth the price? Does anyone have one sitting in their garage that they are no longer using? Looking for some input. It's #1 on my list of next upgrades. I appreciate the input. Have a great day everyone.

If your bike is 2008 or later, ( I assume that it is by your avatar), skip the timing wheel and go to a Maximus tune far and away better than the timing wheel.
If you're planning any more mods to the bike get all the parts in a pile and do them before going to the Maximus.
Read some of the threads on here concerning the Maximus tune vs any other mods. Contact NOEMETZ DESIGNZ in Waller Texas he's the guru and has done more Maximus tunes than anybody.
You'll be glad you did.

Look below. One for sale for $135.
if all your doing to your bike is a timing wheel then sure it’s great. As mentioned above the Maximus tune will do more than just timing. It will cool your bike down more by proper fuel delivery. A tune is the best way to get power down right. You won’t need a timing wheel with a Maximus tune. Put the $170 toward the Maximus. It’s still a better bet all around and even more better if installing cams, Lloydz filter and a more free flowing exhaust.

My bike came with tri ovals and the victory performance filter. I have no desire to upgrade cams or any motor internals, just looking for small tweaks and upgrades that don't break the bank and that a can afford. I've heard a lot of people talk about the maximus tune, but I believe the cost is way out of my budget.

Maximus tune is the way to go absolutely, but if you're looking to save money with having TriOvals & Victory filter I'm assuming it has a Victory stage 1 flash, you can add the timing wheel, I'd also recommend the Lloydz air filter and get rid of the Victory filter. For not alot of $$$ you can make it breathe much better.

With the mods you have I wouldn't be surprised if it already had an ATW. It was a pretty popular mod.

You still need the ATW with a Maximus tune?
No sir. You do not. Maximus adjusts timing.
The timing wheel was created in part because the PC5 could not do timing below 2000 or 2500 rpm ( I forget which) The Maximus can adjust timing all across the board as well as add and remove fuel.

As a point of reference, my CCT has had a Lloyds timing wheel installed for the last 90K miles with no issue whatsoever.

The best way to verify what timing wheel you have is to remove the timing cover and take a look. Be carefull removing the cover to not break the gasket and/or pinch the timing pickup wires when installing the timing cover. .

As others have said, the Lloyds timing wheel alone isn't going to provide you a whole lot of benefit. And as @slickvic pointed out, the timing wheel was really Lloyd's way of dealing with the shortcomings of the Power Commander (which is a piggy-back device, unlike the Maximus which reprograms the ECU).

An upgrade you might consider that is not engine based, and I feel provides a pretty good bang for the buck, is the underdrive pulley.

IIRC the P5 could change the timing but only by 10% or so and that's usually not enough to match a good tune. Does that sound about right?

@Bobcat54s What others have said ^^^.
The Lloyd’s timing wheel is a very popular upgrade. Check the gasket around the right-side engine case cover. The factory gasket is nearly flush with the case and cover. The Lloyd’z gasket is thicker, firmer, and sticks up a bit, you can feel it. The timing wheel is beneficial with PCV or by itself.

Noe Martinez (@NOEMTZ) will perform remote MAXIMUS tunes. The MAXIMUS tune can adjust things that a PCV cannot. And without leaving an extra dangling bit on the side of your ride! Note: The Lloyd’z timing wheel is not needed with a Maximus tune.

Noe has tuned two of my VICs. Yes, it costs more, but covers SO much more. It is WORTH SAVING for.

To answer your original question: Yes, The Lloydz Timing wheel is a popular mod for the VIC engine...

Ride safe,

My $0.02. I piece mealed my upgrades over time. Did the timing wheel first. It was just a “tick” of boost in performance and something that I got over/used to really quickly.

it will NOT be a night and day difference…just a tiny bump.

if I had to do it all over again, I’d go with the Maximus, cams, performance air filter, pipes and a proper dyno tune all at once.

Yeah, I didn’t think I’d want any more than the wheel at first either, but that quickly changed as I was still wanting a little bit more after each upgrade (and finding out that each upgrade didn’t have as much of an impact as my mind had led me to believe).

Another vote here for Maximus (even if that’s all you do and no cams or anything else). Is it more expensive, yes. Is it worth the extra cost…absolutely yes.

I will sell you one for $100 CDN.if you want it.I don't have the gasket though.I have a tube frame bike and they come with a different tune and don't need one.I tried it out on my bike and it didn't make any difference that I could feel.
