He doesn’t have a power source where he keeps the bike, so looking for alternatives.
There are many:
Remove the battery
Disconnect the battery negative side
Solar powered trickle charger

I wouldn’t consider an interrupt switch as it only adds more connections to maintain. For me, the liabilities outweigh the possible benefits.

Yup, all of those have been suggested so far in the thread.

Long time no see Gramps. How's life down under?

Would a trickle charger like this work. I know you get plenty of sun.

Reading a thread and remembering all the details from 15 different threads are two different things, my memory’s like a steel trap wherever the hell I left that trap I’ve forgotten

Yes Lou, have one of similar and it works fine when the sun is on it. But the sun doesn't shine every day and it only maintains the charge as to whatever it is when connected, it doesn't actually maintain by trickling and boosting as needed. The maintainer I have is really good, will recharge overnight and maintain an almost dead battery...

Hi,
I didn't make a video, but the system is simple
The circuit breaker is placed between the (-) of the battery and the engine ground

I guess all I got to do then is find equivalent switch here or even the same one probably, and splice into the ground/earth wire from the battery. I feel I may be able to do that. Will let you know when/if I get round to it. I have applied to the estate manager to be able to put an out door electric power point in the garage space of my cottage so just awaiting now to see when their electrician who they prefer me to use can do the job for me... I is just a car port, 4 posts and a roof, But when I get more organized I have some pallets and can get some marine ply or similar to make at least a semi covered in place for the bike and car....

Sounds like you have a small panel. You should be able to find one that soaks up much more energy. I have a rather large one for camping that can deliver 100w. Even without full sun it runs my electric cooler and charges the battery. Not that you could use what I'm talking about but they have many options for car batteries.

Compare yours to this 20w unit. Looks like they start at 7.5 and go up to 20w. I would think a 20w would keep you up and running well. Of course I know you're down under so the link is simply an example and not a suggestion.

I do understand not having sun at all times but with a stronger panel you shouldn't be in a spot of ever letting the battery run down.

I recall Old Gramps lives in Australia and for some reason he doesn't have a power plug to plug into. I think he parks the bike outside. A maintainer and 100' of extension cord should solve the problem. Maybe arrange a power plug install on the outside of the home.

Has any one ever put a kill switch to the battery of an XCT so battery doesn't go flat... It is not a problem if I have to reset the clock etc each time I start. I do not ride as much as i used to and have no means of putting a battery maintainer on at present and as we all know the battery on these things are a little difficult to take out and put back in...

Nice to see a few familiar names still inputting on this forum.... View attachment 645817
My first suggestion would be to ride more , but everyone hates a smartarse. If you're going to go to that much trouble I'd suggest wiring a plug direct to the battery for the charger to connect to. I used one from Supercheap on my CCT and tucked it behind the LHS frame under the plastic cover at the front of the engine. Worked out so well I did the same on my Vegas and Hardball.
