You either didn't read that correctly or you're not very good at math so early on a Sunday. If only 6% are solely because of the virus then the numbers are over reported by 94%.
The truth is somewhere in the middle. 94% of the people who died and had the virus had other health issues, but not all health issues are fatal. A very large number of the people who died were obese, but very, very few people die from obesity. A lot of people who died also had diabetes, but diabetes that is well managed and under control is generally not fatal, at least not in the short term.
Just like it would be stupid to consider a death coronavirus related if somebody's cause of death was clearly dying in a car crash or getting shot in the head, it would be equally stupid to claim that a death was not coronavirus related just because the person happened to have some minor medical condition that obviously had nothing to do with their illness.
