XCT hard lowers on an XC

I've been trying to get the right wind management for my XC. Since purchase I had the shorty windshield replaced with a Flip which puts the bubble over my head. But we all know the air flow issues on the XC come from under fairing. Last year I installed the fairing air deflectors, they helped a little. Since then I tried fork mounted lowers but had over heating issues and I didn't like all the air blasting my legs. I've been using highway bar covers, these do okay but I still get hammered with buffeting coming over the highway bars. I decided it was time to take the big hit and get XCT hard lowers. I have them coming in and will update the thread with how this works out.
I have no doubt that the buffeting will be 100% taken care of by adding the lowers(and fairing deflectors) I'm just hoping I don't get the over heating I did with the other lowers.

you will, but it is not too bad once you figure out the combination of lower vents and winglets on fairing, openings..... I have mine set up like this and it is still heat but bearable..... Lower fairings, open so as i can fit first three fingers in the opening and winglets open as to first two fingers fit. This seems to work for me.

Of course when stopped at lights or for whatever reason where ever, that motor is not getting breeze and is semi enclosed thus there is an awful lot of heat being produced and it gets very uncomfortable......

There is definately a lot of air flow options with the hard lowers and deflectors. I'm really hoping these work out because in addition to getting the buffeting under control......I like the look of the hard lowers on the "bagger" XC. I've seen a few like this locally and its impressive :)

PaIN, personally I do not like the looks of the factory hard lowers and living down south, I'm real concerned about the heat but with that said, I purchased a set from Ma Vic at half price during their sale, albeit the wrong color, but that's an easy fix. I'm actually considering modifying the exterior looks and with that functionality to better suit my tastes and needs.

PaIN, I put lowers on my bike last summer and the buffeting completely disappeared. The heat will always be an issue when you're standing still (it's a very big motor you're sitting on). Do it yourself modifications can help with the heat. I installed a Lloydz Air Filter, and Hot Vic Power Cone slip on mufflers. This opens up the air intake and exhaust which lets the engine run cooler. A VFC III or Power Commander will allow you to bypass the EFI and adjust the fuel/air mix (factory settings are way too lean). That too will help the engine run cooler.
Good decision to put the lowers on. I think you'll notice a huge difference. Good luck.

I believe the hard lowers will work better than the Fork mounted lowers IMO. I think (again JMO) the fork mounted lowers block too much air to the oil cooler, because of there out front position. I had the metal fork mounted lowers on my bike as well, did not really overheat but noticeably running hotter. Took them off and now I am also looking at the hard lowers.

Keep your eye on the thread, I should have them by the end of next week, I'll post up on how they work and any heat issue as soon as I can.

As one person on here has stated. Your going to get some heat off this motor no matter what type of lowers you run. Sitting in the heat on a summer day, it is a Air Cooled Motor. I run the JTD hard lowers. I use to get a lot of buffeting to the point of having a headache. Haven't since installing them and the ride has been enjoyable and much cheaper on the wallet than the Victory Lowers.

I installed a set of factory lowers over the winter, yes they just about eliminate the buffeting. It's a great improvement. I'm still looking for that perfect adjustment to keep the heat manageable. On cool mornings it's fantastic but when temps hit 80 it gets pretty warm. I haven't tried the "half open" position yet. It won't get back in the 80's until next week. Good luck
