I would guess you can't put a trickle charger on it because where the bike lives there is no power. If I'm correct they have some that have a solar panels. They are meant for trailers and outdoor stuff most often but could work on a bike fine as well. Just plug it in and run the panel outside or to a window.

Yes Lou, have one of similar and it works fine when the sun is on it. But the sun doesn't shine every day and it only maintains the charge as to whatever it is when connected, it doesn't actually maintain by trickling and boosting as needed. The maintainer I have is really good, will recharge overnight and maintain an almost dead battery...
Sounds like you have a small panel. You should be able to find one that soaks up much more energy. I have a rather large one for camping that can deliver 100w. Even without full sun it runs my electric cooler and charges the battery. Not that you could use what I'm talking about but they have many options for car batteries.

Compare yours to this 20w unit. Looks like they start at 7.5 and go up to 20w. I would think a 20w would keep you up and running well. Of course I know you're down under so the link is simply an example and not a suggestion.

I do understand not having sun at all times but with a stronger panel you shouldn't be in a spot of ever letting the battery run down.
