Was googling around for a headlight replacement, and came across the Wisamic 5.75" Daymaker style light on Amazon for $49.99. Went ahead and bought it as an impulse buy based on the 400+ reviews averaging 4.5 stars, after I saw that the JW Speaker Adaptive light is $700-800, which means I won't be getting it any time soon, if ever. Light plugged right in and was bright/white. I unplugged it to start modifying the stock rubber housing to fit around it, and that's where I noticed a few things, resulting in my decision to return it. I know you get what you pay for, so go easy on me, but the reviews were too good to pass this up for $50.
-A light wipe with a paper towel immediately left scratches on the lens (tried to get a picture, but camera didn't capture all the scratches). It's possible, and actually likely, that the scratches were there already, and I didn't notice until I brought it into the light to work with it, but either way, shows the really low quality of material they use for the outer plastic
-There was a small ding inside the housing that wasn't black, that was the size of a small rock chip. Probably wouldn't have noticed it after a few rides, but that's beside the point
-The clear casing didn't seem to be sealed all the way around. It was on there solid, and the unit didn't feel like a piece of junk, but I'm fairly certain that this thing would have been full of condensation after a very short amount of time. You can see in one of the pictures around the outside ring where there is a dark black (sealed) part, and on the rest, apparently the seal didn't make it all the way around the outside ring
Just figured I'd post this in case anyone else is considering it and wanting to know someone else's 2 cents. I may order another one and see if it's any better, but if so, I'll know it's a part that probably won't even last a year. I saw another one on VicBaggers, but the site said allow 4+ weeks for shipping, and I'm not that patient. Hogworkz has some for around $200 that look exactly like the Wisamic one, but at that price, may just be better to spend $400 on the non-adaptive JW Speaker to know that the quality is the best.
