Rob. I have to agree with you. I know I always respond with a
" c'mon man !
"Have you tried this "?
Or " it ain't so bad " !
"Mine is great "!

I response to another thread stating to you to try cams. It will change your bike. It will give one of the gurus a chance to listen and maybe make adjustments or suggestions. You will ride away with 30 more needed HP.

Lord knows it's one of the biggest reasons besides the handling , comfort , and drop dead gorgeous looks that I still have mine.

Nice to load it down with Honey and gear now knowing it still hauls ass.

There's usually a comment before the question. Like, we were just checking out your bike. Or, that's a good looking bike. Then the question, so how do you like it? I tell them I love it. It's the best bike that I've ridden. If they ask more, i tell them it's very comfortable, lots of power, and handles great. Once in a while if they are really intrigued I'll get into the engineering. I do get a comment or question just about every time I'm out.

That's what I get (that's a good looking bike) and I have to agree when it's waxed its stunning looking. Between the black paint and the chrome it's eye candy...

It never fails to amuse me of some of the things people come out with...... Like I hardly ever wash my bike, maybe once a year or sometimes I get real energetic and maybe wash it twice in the one year, but people still say among their questions, "you keep it clean" looks great........

So Rob, save money, save elbow grease and still get the compliments.......:angel4:

Unfortunately black gets dirty very fast. Even a light shower and it looks very dirty. But a coat of very expensive
Meguiar's Past and it looks great. Hides all the scratches...

Mine is all black...... Black bikes go fastest.....

OTOH, if you and your HD boyz ask informed questions about a group of Vics, I will sell you my old NOT-A-helmet for a dollar, so you can ride all weekend. AND answer mildly uninformed questions politely.

Having just closed the deal on a Vic yesterday, I haven't run into this yet. I 'm not worried about the HD guys. At an ABATE meeting several years back some were looking at my Vulcan Classic and made positive comments about the styling, comfort, and reliability. The way I see it, I'm not competing with anyone else. As long as you're on two wheels, we have the same people trying to kill us.

And as long you love your bike, who cares what others think. But I got to say, for the most part, all riders including HD guys that I come across are friendly and curious. The one guy I ride the most with rides an HD and he's a great guy to ride with. We simply find things to compliment each other on. Then we ride, and talk about that.

Getting gas this morning. Older dude wearing a Harley shop shirt comes spinning around truck between us before I even got it shut off - "What the heck is that?
Me - a Victory. I point at tank!
HG - Who makes it?
Me - Victory!
HG - Never heard of it.
HG - Really pretty bike tho
Me- Dude you gotta get out more!!!! Only been around 15 years. Made in America.
HG - Really???? Have to check it out.

Wow. I thought I'd heard everything!!!!
He was probably going in to get orange and black kool-aid!

One of my favorites that someone else posted "I'll bet you can't stop smiling every time you look at that bike!"

That's how I feel, I try to pass that on to whoever asks.

How do you like your Victory?
What year is that?

Those are by far the most two common questions I get about my bike (once they know its a Victory).
This past Sunday I went for a day ride. Just south of Duluth on 23 I always try to stop at the same rest area that overlooks the St. Louis river valley. A couple and their RV were there when I pulled in. As soon as I dismounted the guy looks over at me and says, you pulled in just in time - how do you like smoked salmon? He, his wife, and I chomped down that huge salmon fillet in no time. After saying thank you and making a wise crack or two about how they could possibly expect to get the rest of the salmon home; they started drilling me with a half dozen or so questions about my bike. You know darn well what the first two questions were. :)

I had a different one the other day at a gas station. Older feller walks up, says 'nice bike'. Ubiquitous 'thanks' from me. 'What is it?'
'Victory.. Kingpin'.
'Huh. Honda division?'
'No. Polaris owned company out of Iowa'.
'Huh.. Iowa? United States Iowa?'
'Yep.'
'OOOOHhhh! I knew that! I seen them back in the 50's...always wanted one!'
'Uhhh, nope. Didn't start making these until around 99'.
'No young man.. they've been making these bikes for years and years' Very condescending.
'Ok then.. have a nice day!'

On my ride yesterday my wife and I were talking to a guy in a gas station. He said he has a Harley low boy and wanted to know what I liked about Vic's. I told him I can't compare as this is my first big boy bike lol. Just told him it fit me nice and was all the bike I needed. He said he rode a Vic back in 08. He said that bike could flat move. But his low boy felt heavier and more solid on the road. The Victory felt kind of plasticy to him.

I can understand that response.
Victory is missing some niceties and touches that would give them a more rich and expensive look.
I find Harley adds little touches of Chrome in the right places. Stitching on the seat. These little things make and give there bikes a classy and expensive look.
Chrome fins on a black motor instead of just brushed aluminum. Chrome accents on the wheels instead of the cheap looking bright aluminium found on Vic's. This gives the impression of attention to detail that is missing on Vic's.
I personally think the twin cam is a poor design. BUT it is a beautiful looking motor. And it adds to the impression of getting your money's worth.

As much as I agree with this I have to say I have seen many a stunning Vic back in the King Pin and Jackpot days.
Lots of Arlen Ness touches. I thought it was coming back when the 2015 Magnum X1 showed up. That bike is one that still turns my head. Indian will take the reigns as the old school blingy blingy bike. Victory is pretty much done with that look.

Stopped by a roadside stand the other day that was selling kettle corn & funnel cakes.
I thought I was gonna get mugged by the old couple running it. Both of them came out & just kept walking around the bike like they had never seen a bike before.
They just kept saying over & over again how much they liked the bike.
Then she turns to him & says: "Damn Honey I sure wish we had one like that when we used to ride".

Turns out they were old carneys who used to travel the carnival circuit on a variety of bikes the last one being a VW trike.
Neither of them had ever held a "real" job but they worked all the time doing carnivals & fairs & selling stuff on the side of the road.
They seemed to be a really happy couple with no regrets for the lifestyle they had chosen & of course they had a lot of stories to tell.

Now to me that's life & living.

When someone's old lady compliments your bike. Then she proceeded to drag her man over to talk about the heated seat and riding comfort.
As they jabber away... My old lady stirs the pot and starts bragging about the comfort on long rides, gas mileage and how easy it handles riding 2up.
He just nods his head and walks away...

What look do you see for the future Vic's ?
You know I was very dissapointed when I finally got to see the Indians up close. Even they don't have the touches done right. The Chrome looks cheap. And I am sure it's not cheap it's just not done in a way that gives the bike that expensive look. I am not a fan of the look of the 111 ether. To much Chrome. It needs some flat black. That's what makes the Chrome pieces pop.
