I recently saw a 14 JP with 1200 miles go for $8k. I would seriously hold off and wait it out. Also, I wouldn’t travel that far for for a bike you don’t know much about and the owner doesn’t seem to know much about. The bike buying season is almost upon us, just wait for the right one to come along. There are some great specimens out there, just gotta find them.

All sounds like good advice. I'll add to it by telling what I actually did.

I shopped Vics for over a year, and got to know all I could about them. At the end of it all I knew exactly what I wanted and how much it was going for on the market. So, I watched. Finally saw it at an insane price and called the guy right away.

Instead of launching into asking about the bike, I talked to him about riding in general, and shared some stories about the places we'd been, what we'd been riding, bike mods in general and all of the things around riding, like packing, going two up, Got to hear some of his road stories. I did this because, I wanted to know about this guy and how he treats his bikes, how many he's owned before, etc. I picked his brain to find out if he was indeed a rider, or just a jockie.

Not only was he a rider, but an aircraft mechanic. And, he could tell me more about the maintenance on the bike than I even knew about.Jackpot!

I accepted his price, grabbed a trailer, and went out of state to pick up the bike, after preping the money and paper work. Met him near his bank and we did the deal. I didn't even see the bike until it was done, except pictures. But every thing about the guys story checked out. WE talked about three or four times before I actually went. Still got My CCT and loving it. He had so many extras on it I've only done a couple of mods myself. But all his stuff was Victory Equipment, no cheap add ons, or "personal touches". Stay away from that stuff unless you're sure they know exactly what they are doing. Good luck. It's out there, don't think you have to grab the first one.

Patience will save you time, money, and aggravation.

When I started looking sometime around the middle of July of 2017 I knew exactly what Bike I wanted.... model, trim, color, etc.. I saw a lot of real nice Victory's close to where I live and came very close to buying one. The guy offered me a great deal.... especially when he knew I was going to walk away. I slept on that deal over the weekend while still looking for the exact Victory that I wanted.

And with a few keystrokes on the internet there it was..... EXACTLY what I wanted and only three hours away. I called the dealer and made the deal over the phone in about 10 minutes. Called the guy that I almost made a deal with and humbly apologized. He totally understood.

Made the three hour drive a couple of days later and completed the deal and drove her home.

Hurry not... Find you will, if you wait.

Walk away he is looking for a sucker.

Don't be that sucker.....

Similar to other stories shared here, I did a ton of research, went on demo rides (Vic, Indian, Harley) and once I knew exactly what I wanted, I started looking for the right deal. 5 months later, I found it and have not regretted one moment. Did it take a while? Yes. Was it worth it. Absolutely!

After listening to all you guys on here I am going to heed your advice and walk away from this bike and the seller I have gotten some great advice in which I am going to follow. if it is ok with the group I would like future input on another bike when I find one that I really like. I trust u guys as guys know way more then I do and I am not afraid to admit it . I maybe a newbie to owning my first bike but I will listen to people who have been riding way longer then myself. I am trying to say thank you to everyone for keeping me from making a huge mistake and even a bigger disaster if I would of purchased that bike in NEWYORK. I have learned a lot and I still want to learn more the more I know the better off I am I will continue to take advice and criticism in a good way and keep an open mind as to what the group has to say. if anyone would ever like to share advice with me at anytime please do I am always open for learning.

We are more than willing to help guide you into getting your first bike. Just throw up the links you find and we will look into them.

And here's one more thing to consider. @VicVisionBulldog is right about sharing links and letting everyone sort of "check out" what you're considering. But, you might even find a member close to a bike you might be looking at and have them go actually take a look at it for you. It's been done here before.

Careful, though, VVB might buy it if it's a vision.:biggrin:

I bought my 2011 XC in Texas from a dealer in Katy. They went over the bike and sent me tons of pictures. It was $3-4000 cheaper than anything I could find in California, even with the $550 shipping. It all went smoothly.
BUT, I would not have bought it from a private party without seeing it.
