When I retired last March, I treated myself to a 2013 Vision Tour (Sunset Red). I call her "Vicky, my red-headed mistress", to my wife's chagrin. My previous riding experience was 1973-76 on a Suzuki 750 "Water Buffalo". In the intervening 37 years, we always told ourselves, "Some day, we'll get us a Gold Wing and ride again." Never happened. I did lots of internet research on touring bikes, went to some local dealerships to look and fondle and finally took home the Vision. (BTW, I never did a test ride on anything.)
And, therein, lies the rub. As much as I love riding my Vision, I'm getting that itch wondering if I missed out on not owning or riding other bikes before this decision. (Maybe it's like marrying your first girlfriend and later looking back and wondering what you missed out on by not dating other girls, if you know what I mean.)
I still like the looks of the Gold Wing. I also am intrigued by the BMW K1600 GTL. Trouble is, my local Honda dealer won't even talk about test rides, giving me some blather about insurance restrictions, etc. And the nearest BMW dealers are more than 150 miles away.
So, what to do. While I probably could afford to get another bike, I don't think I could get away with that, if you know what I mean! I'm hoping the good folks here can offer some perspective and/or personal experiences with riding the aforementioned temptresses and tell me I'm either not missing out on anything or to stray and see if the grass is, indeed, greener on the other side.
