has anyone tried to trade with a Harley dealership lately? I was possibly thinkin of trading my vic vision,... I know, how could I , right? anyways, was mainly toying with them, seeing what kind of deal could get. but geezzzzzz they act like vics are junk on 2 wheels, and Indians are just as bad. or is it just me??/ yeah probly that's it, just me. felt extremely insulted when they offered 7 or 8 k for my 09 anss vision, with only 4600 miles. h.d. owners are lemmings. just I do like the road king tho.

I'm under the impression that they lowball everyone trying to trade anything but a Harley.

You know, I was just looking at the bikes you list as currently riding. The list makes your lemming comment pretty funny.

I'm kind of friendly witha Harley dealer and another friend of mine has a car lot. The car lot guy buys and sells a lot of bikes mostly Harleys 50 to 100 a year. Anyway your right they don't want non Harleys on there lots so they wholesale them through small dealers and auctions.

You have an 09 Vision with 4600 miles??? WTF...
Anyway, here's the deal. People go to Harley shops looking to buy Harley's. Kinda like you. So the smart Harley dealer puts Harleys in their inventory. Other brands they pretty much have no use for so they'll try to justify the lowball because they're just going to ship it off to auction were they're going to get less than retail themselves.

yes, I know but the 1250 sporty was a great deal, [05 in great condition, 8900 miles and only 3750 buckeroos.] the vrod, well, its my go fast 'round town bike. the big dog is a custom, sooo that's completely different, imho, than a Harley. of course, the vision is my long ride bike. just have a heck of a time adjusting to the tallness of the bike. plus ,its a heavy , tall, bike.

:couch1:if they see you like the koolaid they will hook you up for sure. this guy says , hey they gave me what I wanted for the sporty ! what did you get I asked. he shows me a pic of a softail with apes and a nice paint job ( 2010 & low mi's ) and says ( its got the biggest motor Harley makes ) . and only 390 a month for 6 years ( not including ins. ). OMG ! I googled the bike and it was a cvo model,,, when I asked him if it was a cvo, he said " I don't remember him saying those letters,,, what's that ? " further research revealed he paid about a grand over retail,,, be careful out there, end of story. :-( :icon_eek:

The guys are right. No HD dealer wants your piece of unsaleable junk. If you trade a Harley in, you will still get screwed, but they'll spread it around so it sounds better.
I would never even attempt trading something else in for a Harley. I will sell my bike on Craigslist first, then walk in with a nice cash down payment...or.... just buy another bike from Craigslist. You're throwing money away at the dealer.

:couch1:I toyed with the local indian dealer last spring with my 2012 vision ( with 10 thou mi's at the time ) and they would only give me 12 g's on a trade in. :sign_tbnt: it only had one riding season on it,,, and its supposedly a 21,000 dollar machine ! ouch !!! fortunately for me I have never been happier with any other motorcycle in my life and this one is going nowhere without me on it ! :pepper1:

Harley shop here offered 12 thou on a 2008 Electra glide, Victory dealer offered 12 grand on the same bike, Kawasaki dealer (who doesn't take trades here) also said probably sell for 12 grand...

What I am saying here people is that even though the Harley is approx 10 thousand dollars more than a victory of similar ilk, it is only worth the same no matter where you go as far as dealership trade in goes....

I reckon I could have got 15 or more as a private sale for the classic but would need to wait for it to be sold and I had made up my mind that the time for a brand new machine was nigh! Thus I have been riding a 2014 CCT for close on twelve months now....

Same with cars, trade em if you have to, but if you can wait for a few weeks or months to sell, then sell privately and you are guaranteed an extra few bucks in the hip kick....

Well since you wasn't in a serious negotiations I doubt that was their best offer.

^^ Bingo.

Yeah- no offense bud- but take it from a guy who spent 16 years working at a retail dealership:

"Toying"? Dude you are not "toying" with anyone. You're nowhere NEAR as slick as you think you are. Anyone with more than 90 days experience can sniff out bull**** from miles away. The rest depends on their attitude at the moment. It can range from "work it for the future" all the way to "get outta my face- you're wasting my time" And you are, evidently. Mix in what has already been said about their attitude towards Victory and their owners, and you are quite frankly asking for it.

Once you establish yourself as a serious buyer- the whole landscape of the showroom will change- even for a Victory owner. The Victory trade now becomes a trophy that can be used for a while with other customers..."I trade these all the time- see?"

Dont feel bad ark vic a friend of mine just tradeed his 2012 heritage softail to a local harley dealer with over 24 k in the bike and only got 9500.00 they told him they are saturated with harleys and the traded value is very poor.

You have to recognize that the HD dealer will never try to sell your bike. They don't want anything on the floor that will take people away from the HDs they prefer to sell. That means the best you can ever expect for any non-Harley trade is wholesale list or even less. Figure the bike is probably worth 50% more on the open market than they would give you.

Buy low, sell high.... Wholesale for you, retail for them. Planes boats cars bikes, rocks and that is why there is a auto-trader. Like you trading in is a pain and why the garage is full of 20 year old sports cars, people think I got money... all goes to upkeep have a hardtime with trade-ins...

All you have to do is check www.kbb.com/motorycycles/ to check the trade in values and the retail values and negotiate from there. If you're trading in, the dealer will tell you they don't want your bike regardless of what it is, then when they try to sell it, it's one of the best trades they got in. I do find that if you're willing to pay MSRP+, they will give you more on trade-in, but if you pay less than MSRP out the door, you may get only trade-in value and probably nothing more. It's all about the numbers just like the dealer set up fees, everything is negotiable, and the buyer ALWAYS have the option to say no. The bottom line is the out the door price. Work on monthly payments from there.

That bike books out at 9550 trade in. Most car and bike dealers want to be back of that. It may also depend on what that bike is selling for at auction.

got a great deal on a great bike at a harley dealer!! traded my 06 porkster on a 13 Hammer that was just traded on a loaded harley bagger. my porkster had several upgrades, brakes + suspension that worked decently + a few others. the 13 Hammer in 13 had 8xx miles on it + a stage I tri-pro exhaust installed. Hammer was listed at $10,500 on line, i went there with my checkbook , looking for at least $5500 for my porkster, i happily rode home $5,000 out the door, one test ride was all it took!!!
