2012 CR. 40k miles. Normally bike runs like a top. Problem: every once in a while I have this urge to snap the throttle open and blast a few gears to clean the cobb webs out. LOL Anyway, about 4 times in the last year when I get on it (WOT) I will take off hard then power is gone, like no fuel. Always happens in 1st or 2 gear. If you hold throttle open after this starts you will just keep slowing down. However, if you let off the throttle the fuel will return and hit it again it will haul ass. After that you can full throttle this thing all day and it never misses a beat. If it was getting fuel and loosing spark I am sure when the spark returned I would get one loud backfire and I am not. So I don't think its spark, guess it could be both fuel and spark together. Anyone hear of an issue like this?

Possibly rev limiter. Backfire can snap your starter clutch! Not something you want to happen. Do you have a Power Commander? If you do and DynoJet it, it will smooth out your excelleration curve through all the gears.

I have a VFCiii. The bike runs like a scalded dog, no issues. No its not at or near rev limiter when this happens..

Get a PCV and a dyno tune. Be done with it.

Check the battery terminals for looseness?

Thanks but I have the VFC III and it is dialed in perfect and runs awesome. I don't think another brand unit will make any gain. I don't have a fuel mixture or performance issue at all. Its a very rare once in a blue moon blip. Just looking if anyone has had a similar ghost or ideas that could cause. Feeling is its more electrical than mechanical. Thanks

Well then, check ALL your electrical circuits! Or get someone to do it for you. (-:

Think I might have found the problem. I had gone over pretty much everything before posting on here. With it being an issue so infrequently it is very hard to trouble shoot. Kind of like the radio that goes off once in a while and every time you bring to shop it works for a week straight flawlessly. The very small ground wire for the fuel controller was tight and looked good but was broken inside the insulation near the terminal. If I wiggled it a certain way I could hear the engine stumble. Cut the wire back about an inch, attached a new terminal end and installed. Could not get a stumble by pulling on wire anymore. That ground wire is of very small gauge and fragile. Taped it to the other ground wire for support. Hopefully that was the problem, time will tell. Peace out
