Here we go again...gas prices are now rising. Florida is now averaging $3.20 per gallon for regular. So, I thought I'd ask, What's the price for gas in your area? How will this increase affect your riding, driving and your lifestyle?

One reason I get so pissed off about gas prices is we Canadians do not get the breaks on our gas like other oil producing countries do. Now don't get me wrong on this because some will, this was the fault of our own government backing down to pressure and lies about low oil reserves in our neighboring country back in the early to mid 70's Canada's Rank in World Energy 3rd largest crude oil reserves in the world 3rd largest natural gas producer in the world Largest supplier of energy to the United States, the biggest energy market in the world Top Five Sources of Crude Oil and Petroleum Products to the United States Of the top five sources of oil to the United States, Canada is the only country that currently has GHG regulation in place and which has signed the Copenhagen Accord. In fact, all oil sands production is subject to provincial GHG regulation. 1.Canada - GHG regulated 2.Saudi Arabia -unregulated 3.Mexico - unregulated 4.Venezuela -unregulated 5.Nigeria -unregulated Sources: U.S. Energy Information Administration, Cambridge Energy Research Associates Regards

$1.11 a litre 4.54 li per gallon = $5.03 $1.11 a li 3.785 per US gallon = 4.20 Premium is currently at 121.9 a li for the bikes = 5.53 Imp gallon So we are at the 5$ mark here..Up here in Cold Lake we do get a bit cheaper then our eastern or western copunterparts as we are pumping ut of our backyards. The asian market wanted a pipeline from Ft Mac to Vancouver and I believe it got shot down..maybe it will get reopened for discussion...maybe the hybrids will become more popular and we can tell the Arab countires, sorry we don;t as much anymore. If the demand drops..... Only 2% of the world market comes from Libya, the Candian workers over there dont want to leave as the fighting is over by Tripoli. News sayas US is talking to its allies, the last thing the western world needs to do is send armed troops into a muslim country, IMO Gas companies sure don;t miss a chance to screw us! Makes our "dirty" oil in Alberta look pretty good, time to start refining our own, and selling it off as a finished product, we don't need Kadafi or his oil I am surprised he hasnt died of lead poisoning ...yet.

Prices here are pretty much in line with what Andy's seeing, around $3.20 / gallon for regular. I have no plan to change any driving habits, delay any trips or in any way get worked up over this. Luckily I don't commute every day so my usage is fixed pretty low. I did just buy a new SUV with a nice 5.7L V8 that is rated 13/19 MPG and even if gas hits the magic $5 / gallon mark that only increases my annual fuel costs $800. I'm not losing any sleep over this.

For all you "drill baby drill" proponents. The USA has more drills in the ground than any other country. The problem is that the average amount of oil pumped per well is 10 barrels per day. Saudi Arabia's wells average 6,500 barrels per day. If we pumped ANWR (Alaska) dry, it would last 520 days.

San Francisco East Bay Area Chevron Station $3.74 for Regular $3.97 for Premium $4.09 for Diesel One really amusing thing is the fact that Chevron has a refinery about 20 miles from here. The farther away you get from the source, the cheaper it gets. Will somebody please drop a freaking H-Bomb on California and get it over with?

I love all the "it's Pres. Obama and the Dem's fault oil prices are high folks"...Guessing it was his fault that the prices were around 4.00 per in early 2008 too? http://gasbuddy.com/gb_retail_price_chart.aspx I'm sure we all remember the $2 to $3 dollar a gallon jump we saw in 2001 mid September. I also seem to remember that some law was sign by Pres. Bush at the time that was meant to keep gas stations in line price-wise that required gas station within a certain radius of each other having to within $.10 but that also meant if station A raises it's prices $2.00 station B has to also within a certain amount of time. That's a truly messed up law! I stated earlier in this thread that I tend to buy oil stock (actually it's a ETF) right before it starts to go through the roof (in fact bought my Suzuki C50 with the profits). Oil price are set based on a ton of factors with Middle Eastern unrest being one of the best indicators, also do a check on you state's tax per gallon and you will be amazed at how much you are paying. Yes federal government plays a part but it's wayyyyyy down the list of factors.

My wife and I telecommute most days. My gym is 20 miles roundtrip (4x times/week) and I generally ride my XC. I occasionally take clients out for lunch (2x a month). Groceries, runaround stuff, maybe 50 miles a week. On weekends, weather permitting, we go for long coastal rides (bike). So, we're considering selling one of our cars. Even if gas goes to 6/gal., we probably won't change our patterns. Currently, we get premium at 3.76/gal. at Costco..

Clif, as far as the Bakken oil reserves go, you might want to read this. http://www.snopes.com/politics/gasoline/bakken.asp Caution; Most mass mailings VIA Email are BullHockey. Simply check them with "Factcheck.org" or "Snopes" before forwarding them.

$3.39 here in MA this week. Unfortunately it currently has no impact on my riding as the darn snow has that covered right now. I just got my new Dennis Kirk catalog to drool over so spring must be close! In general gas prices do not impact my riding at all, EVER. Having grown up in Ireland where gas was $4-$5 a LITRE (3.8 litres per US gal!) so every day I pay US$3-4 per gallon I'm happy!

I saw diesel today in South L.A., Calif. for $4.50 gall. No B.S. Insane!!!! Hope and Change: Gas Prices Have Gone Up 67 Percent Since Obama Became President That's compared to a 7 percent increase under Bush in his first 26 months. Now obviously turmoil in the Middle East has something to do with our current astronomical gas prices, but keep in mind that by this point in the Bush presidency 9/11 had happened and we were on the verge of invading Iraq. So while the president can't be entirely responsible for global commodity prices, it's still worth asking what Obama's doing to make things worse. After all, this is the President who told us "We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times … and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK." This is the President that appointed a Secretary of the Interior that famously said he didn't mind if gas hit $10 a gallon.
