Fuel pump not working

Posted on tech q&a but will try here as this forum is busier. Yesterday, a friend of mine with a 2013 CC 8-Ball fuelled up and rode to his friend's home. The plan was to go on a ride. After a short while, he tried to start the bike but the fuel pump wasn't priming as it normallly should. No fuel - no go. It was hauled on a trailer to the dealer today. Any suggestions as to why this situation came about right out of the blue? The engine turns over just fine. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Can you hear the pump kick on for few seconds after the run switch is flipped? Ifnot checkfor blownfuse, loose connector, or pump motorI believethere is a strainer on the siphon but if it were plugged I think you would still hear the motor try to make pressure. Most light bulbs fail on start because of initial inrush current, weak winding in the pump? Check for open winding with an Ohm meter. Already at the dealer.... Borrow a buddies spare bike and ride anyway or break out the cold ones and relax. I'm too impatient to wait for the dealer. I fix it myself out of warranty. Sometimes much cheaper.... sometimes much, much more expensive after I really break it. Side note ,they charge the same when I watch. Alot. Sometimes the conversation can be painful, questions like who's the moron who... Better not to watch

Failure out of the blue is kind of how fuel pumps die. Working one minute, dead the next.
I feel his pain, it happened on my old Vegas. State-side, the repair was almost a grand.

Turned out to be a total failure of the fuel pump on his 2014 CC. Dealer took one out of a new bike and he was on the road the following day. Surprises me but s*it happens.

This just happened to me yesterday while riding. I was at Clearwater Beach riding slow speed (1st gear) in traffic and my bike died. I heard a low click and the bike died. Pulled over to the side of the road and the bike would not start. The fuel pump will not kick as usual. Hoping it is just a fuse. I will check those today. If that is not the problem, taking it to the dealership on Tuesday.

I was thinking that the new fuel pump recall probably played a part in it too. I had the dealer check my vin the other day when I picked my new 2014 CC up and they said nothing came up.

I just read about it. I'm going to check the fuses just in case. Then call dealership about recall during the week.... this sucks, hope to get it resolved by the time our trip comes along in two weeks...

Ok, I had time to check my fuses and it turned out that the fuse for the fuel pump AS WELL AS the fuse for the horn and signals had blown....I replaced them both and the bike is running, and horn and turn signals are working. but when I went to check to make sure they were in place securely, (after the bike just ran for a few minutes), I noticed that the fuses were very very HOT. I don't know why... does anybody know why this would be?

What are your mods to the bike? Heated grips, other lights etc? I would look for a pinched wire/cable bundle. Maybe under the tank if you have removed the tank in the past. Other threads have found pinched wires where the handle bars pivot. Please share your results.

The only mod that I can think of that would affect my fuses would be my headlight. I replaced my headlight with the new LED headlight. The bike has been working fine (14 months) and it has 16,000 miles. When I first bought it I had a problem with my cruise control fuse blowing (I think it happened 2-3 times) but the fuse was replaced and it has been working ever since. From now on I'll have extra fuses with me anywhere I go!!

The fuse blowing two or three times makes me wonder if there is another issue at work here. If we assumed you had a bad fuse once I could agree. I doubt three or more fuses would be defective. Typically, if a fuse blows this is due to a problem with the load or the wiring. There have been several threads on pinched wiring from the factory. If it were my ride, I would take the fairing and tank off, undo all tie wraps and inspect the wiring thoroughly.

I called the dealership in Lakeland and shared with them what happened to me with the fuse. Also told them that I have a long road trip coming up. They immediately offered to check the bike for me to make sure everything is ok for the trip. They said the bike is under warranty, so if they find anything wrong, they would take care of it. To be honest, this is the first Vic Dealership that has made me feel welcomed. The ones closer to me act like I owe them something.....

Well, I took the bike to Sky Powersports in Lakeland yesterday. They will check it and call me by Tuesday. Hoping for something minor and simple to fix. I have a trip planned for Valentines's weekend with the wife....

Well, I called the dealership today to find out about my bike. They said that the bike needs a new fuel pump. I found that strange. But I don't know anything about bikes or fuel pumps, so whatever. It just sounds strange to me that the fuel pump is the reason my fuses are blowing. On top of that, the fuel pump is not available until March 5th. So I'll be without a bike for about a month... this sucks!

Over two weeks without a bike.....this really sucks! No news from Victory. The dealership was hoping that Victory would do something to speed up the process of getting the fuel pump, but nothing....
It really sucks paying for a bike you cannot ride.... I guess now I know what HD riders feel.... poor guys!
