since polaris gives no specs checking out the peterverdone/suspension fluid will give recommendations, cartrige forks require different fluid than damper rod units. it says most cartridge forks use a 16 centikoke @ 40c fluid, this will be on the better fluid container, others can be researched. you prolly got a better cheaper fluid from the yammi dealer anyhow! silkoline + redline are highly recommended, both in many weights, if you like how your choice feels its the right one as riding style + the load on the bike determines what is best for YOU!!

I know any oil thread can get crazy, so it's OK if this does... but a thing that struck me when I went to the Yamaha parts desk was the guy there, no neophyte, told me transmission fluid would be just fine! interesting. I've been riding since 1974, torn apart a lot of bikes... and mostly think any name brand oil is going to do just fine. put the bike back together right and don't forget to tighten the bolts and all, and then keep the rubber side down :)

be aware that all 10W suspension fluids are NOT actually the same viscosity!!! like semi-syn oil having no law to how much synthetic oil is in the blend there are NO standardization of fork fluids. quality fluids give you a centistoke measurement + like oil real synthetic fluids having a higher viscosity index is best as its viscosity is more consistent as it heats up. search peterverdone/suspensionfluids to learn more + see the ACTUAL viscosity of many brands of suspension fluid. of course no specs for polaris products as they hide info so you buy their overpriced lower quality lubricants$$$

tranny fluid is NOT suspension fluid but said to be close + suitable for damper rod forks but too thick for a cartridge fork. a look at peterverdone/suspensionfluid or redline.com shows their med to be 32 cst @ 40C good for most damper rod forks, but their lightweight @ 16 cst, ideal for most cartridge forks. fork fluids have an easy life compared to shocks where the fluid can get quite hot, i read that penske's premium shocks use rebranded redline fluid, verdone says they use silkolene both quality ester based fluids, like their oils some of the very best.
