Trying to make a decision when you feel like your being pressured by mechanical issues can suck.
I know you've been considering another bike for a while. If you can afford it, and have the room, set old yellow aside for a while and buy something else. You may swap bikes a couple of times looking for what it is you want. Eventually you will know if you need to rebuild the KP.
The cheapest way back on the road may be to find a bottom end with low miles and just transplant your goodies onto it.

I searched around the net last night for unusual clutch issues, and one guy with a HD who had slipping only in first and fifth. After putting in three new clutches he had a bent shaft, and later on he found out he had a warped basket. Two things that could be considered when troubleshooting clutches going out unexpectedly.

Trying to think way - way outside the box for a minute...
Just suppose the clutch isn't slipping.
If the rear tire was installed with some sort of lubricant then under full HP the wheel could be spinning faster than the tire and it would feel like a slipping clutch. Magic marker the tire and wheel in a couple of matching random spots and take a run and see if they move.
If it is the clutch then I agree with HC.. change the whole unit basket and all.

There is one small speed bump in the road... HC no longer has a job. Gotta find me some income fast.
I always took a month and a half off between jobs to de-stress and catch up on fun things. After that I would get a little antsy, and knew it was time to look for a new job.
I hope you find work that makes you happy!

When I first brought my bike home it was a few hours on all scenic back road two lane highways with winding turns, rises, and some lightweight elevation changes with near constant throttle changes and some purposeful deceleration here and there all while keeping the revs down. God, I love these bikes!
