I made this post a week ago and received an email from a member of this forum suggesting I contact an individual at Exdonal6@gmail.com who might have the part. I used the email and ended up with a response from a person saying his name was "Donald" who told me he did in fact have the part and would sell/ship it to me for $25 after asking me what I expected to pay for it...I told him I've seen them for $29.95...he then made the $25 offer paid by an Amazon gift card...I sent him the card and my address..."Donald" asked me if I needed any other parts and sent me the list he had. I needed no other parts and asked how he would be shipping the part shown in my post...crickets...he cashed in the gift card and has made no further contact with me. Very disappointing "Donald" turned out to be a liar and a thief. The initial email I received referring me to him was likely sent by him as well. I am curious if any one else in this forum has had this experience with this individual, or if "Donald" did what he said he would do. I'm still looking for the part...would appreciate any one who could direct me to a legitimate source.

I know that horse has already left the barn but I use PayPal so I can get my money back if it turns out to be a scam. Sorry this happened. I suspect the same person who scammed you is the same person who referred you to that email address.

I have that part on my XC and like it. It's only held on with silicone. I highly doubt you will find one but I bet if one could be found and scanned, a 3D printer could make one. And no, I'm not pulling mine off to send it to someone. ;) If I had a way to scan it I would though or if someone nearby could. The part could then be made infinitum and painted any color or with chrome paint.

You're right BBob, I don't care about the $25...I wanted the part! And I have looked into the 3d printer route, but you have to have one to scan in to print one...as you said. If you can figure out a way to have that done with yours I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks for your response!

I don't know anyone with a 3D printer but if that changes, I'll do this. it's an expensive hobby so someone really has to have a need to have one.

I didn't either, but googled it in my area in Texas and found several places that do 3d printing...don't know where you are but you might give it a try...thanks again for the offer!
Actually all I'd need to do is find someone to scan it then get the file to send to you. You could then take it to anyone with a printer and take it from there. I'll look but I don't think there will be anyone within 1.5 hour drive.

I have one of these in my stash. I bought it for my CCT years ago but never installed it. I can send it to someone legitimate here on TheVog with a 3D printer who has the interest and the capacity to make these for people. Mine is chrome and if my memory is correct, it’s a chromed plastic piece that came with a tube of RTV to adhere it to the master cylinder. I’ll certainly not send it to someone from a bogus email scam.

I’ve also been contacted by a bogus email scam a while ago when I was looking for a hard to find part here on TheVog. It was quite evident, and quickly that it was a scam.

Winner, winner, chicken dinner!

If you look online you can find reputable places that will take your part, after you mail it to them, scan it, and print it out. You might even be one of the lucky ones with a place close by. If you do that, I'll put the 3D printer file in the database with everything else. You guys would have to work out who pays for it I guess.

Well Mark...if you'll let me know how to make it happen I would certainly appreciate it! Mine was chrome as well...and that's what I'm trying to get back on it...thank you!

The big bold text mean I am in moderator mode.

Please give me the info of the person that reached out to you. They are a scammer, and I need to crush their account with my spam hammer. You can give it public or private. I do not care.

Now I guess I am going a little into cop mode.

As to the scam you fell victim to this is a warning for everyone. If you ever, anywhere, are asked for payment by a gift card of any type it is most likely a scam. We see this often now days. People will get a call from the police saying they have a warrant, the IRS saying they owe taxes, or whatever.....and then offer to settle up for a payment with a gift card. Amazin, Target, Walmart, and the like are usually the ones asked for. They have also started asking for crypto coins. Do not fall for these things. The police and IRS do not call you and accept payments over the phone, especially with a gift card.

I looked for the original email and must have inadvertently deleted it…the email I was told to contact is in my initial post…maybe you can work backwards from there…any posts that have that referred email? Thanks for the crush…

I cannot see users emails. Did you get an email or a direct message within the forum? I'm guessing a DM, and I can't see those either. Do you remember the user name at all?

Hey Mark…I re-read your response to my post…if you’ll send the part to me, I have a source with a 3D printer who can print the part…of course once it’s printed I’ll send yours back to you ASAP! Let me know!

I found the referenced post...it was not an email...I was contacted through VOG.net...here's what I was sent...
That's what I needed. I've actually already killed the account, but I guess they DM'd you before making a public post so I had the chance to smash them.

Please share the 3D file so I can put it in the database if this happens.
