My 2nd trip to the track ..... man is it an adrenaline rush !!

Rode there with some local buds .... me and my friend on a 07 Screamin eagle VRod ran side by side....

It's a lot tougher than it looks ....and your time is heavily dependant on how well you can get off the line ....

above are 3 of the 5 runs we did ..... I am driver number 8 .

I would like to run my KP down the track this year. I have a co-worker that knows of a track that is close to us. He actually was just talking to me about it last week. I think it's in Cicero,NY
I hope i can run under 13 seconds. And I can launch a bike. At least I think so.

Launching is definately a technique that will improve with each pass ....
It's a lot different lined up ...watching the light tree ...and knowing it's just you , the track , and the bugger next to you that wants to eat your lunch.

I was getting progressively better each run ....

The track was very tacky .... I was hooking up real good ...and I was trying to find the correct for me rpm at launch , that would move me forward , but not produce too much 1st gear wheelie....

I tried starting with my right foot on the track ...and the left foot positioned under the shifter ... so I didn't have to worry about my shift foot being in correct position to make positive 2nd thru 4th gear shifts.....

Sounds good .... I still missed shifting into 2nd on 2 of the 5 passes I made.

My buddy on the VRod can launch like a mother .... and he weighs in at a buck- fifty wet .....so he is very formidable on the 1200 cc bike ...even though I have a 65 hp advantage ....

I was warned about breaching the 120mph mark on 2 runs .....;)

dumb question

I thought the point was to go as fast as you can on a strip to get the best time. Why is 120 the top????

If you go quicker than 10.99 or 120 mph you will have to wear full racing leathers, have a lanyard kill switch and possibly have to get a racing license. 120 is not the top, it's the threshold of playing with the big kids.

Usually... whatever you can shave off the 60' time will be almost twice that reduction in 1/4 mile ET.
Like if you go from a 1.95 60' to a 1.75 your ET would drop into the 11.30s.

The more power you have (especially if you have big torque) the harder it is to launch the bike from a standing start. Peter is 4 tenths quicker on the SC 106 than he was on the SC 116... probably for that very reason. He's wrestling a smaller alligator off the line.

And yet I still have much to improve with regards to the launch......I pretty certain that if I could launch a well as my bud on the Vrod .....I would be in the Low 11's ......

Oh the bike can go faster than that in the 1/4 ..... and if I was to get a decent launch I would expect that I would be near the 127-130 mark or so ......

As Larry stated....need full leathers / and kill switch for anything above 120mph.

I did 119.95 the 1st pass......and ended up with a 12.1 et .... that shows you how poor I was off the line.

I did 2 + 120mph passes ( just over ) ...and was reprimanded......
I played dumb...... :)

How modified is that VRod ? He's running pretty strong.
Not modified at all ..... it's a '07 Stock SE Vrod ..... so 1283cc I believe ....
He's just very good ...and weighs in at about a buck fifty wet ....

Times look great Pete. You sound like you had a lot of fun. In this type of race it is you and the clock. the "other guy" is doing just that. Race the clock and don't beat yourself.
Actually ....the times suck....for the bike , even with just the baby motor.

I did have fun ...but wish I had more time to continue running passes ...... I had done 5 passes ...and they stopped us mid day ...due to some sprinkles / rain ....and I just ran out of time...as I had to still ride home from the track...an hour's drive.....

It's a completely different animal ...my bike vs. his.
I would expect him to do poorly until he was used to it on the track.....
...which is what I am doing.

I agree Larry .... I'm not 100% confidant that the stock Digital tach readout on the Speedo is fast enough or that accurate .....as I know I hit rev limiter a few times on a few of the passes......
