The Harley looks nice but I would never own a Harley. The motor is so outdated what was the last vehicle to have a chain drivin cam , a 1934 Packard . Come one Harley time evolve . My Harley had to get overhauled at 50,000 miles they don't build them to last . Ill take my victory over Any Harley ant Day .
Sorry to tell you but your Vic has chain driven cams.

The Harley and the Victory are cool. The Schwinn is not. Put a Bannana seat and sissy bar on it and hell yeah! The term badass has been so over used it now is defined as douchebag.

According to Mike Shults from Arizona Victory... It's a 39 Nash, and he was reffering to the primary . ;) ....but what's it matter ? lol

Doesn't S&S make a gear drive for the Harley cams? Honestly I don't know. I saw their booth at the IMS show and they had some gears to replace something on the Harley big twin. It was too crowded to get a good look.
I did put S&S gear driven cams in my 2001 Electra Glide 88 CI motor. Itreally improved the performance and the motor is still running well asI know the owner.I think it has a little over 60k on it now.

To be honest , on those 2 bikes ! I like them both . the absence of smooth on the HD has a flare of its own . simply for cosmetic reasons they booth fit the bill!
If asked which I would prefer, JP first but in reality i love the rakes on both but could not nor would not want one of my own unless it was for show only .or as the new term Ibob mentioned (peacocked)

I may be missing something, but the last time I had a SB chevy and Ford o the engine stand they had Timing chains for the Cam.
To be fair though Sarah always did say I am missing something.

In the early 90's I think the 3.5 dodge intrpid front wheel drive had a chain primary linking trany and engine, but that didn't last long. must be a reason.

Back in '01 they had tighter cranks and Timken bearings... Max run-out spec on the crank was .003" (three thou) and gear drive is fine like that. Now the 'new' spec is .012"(twelve thou). The new engines are too loose for gears.

And that is the reason that ifI ever bought another H-D to play around withI would be looking for the 01 to 04 model. They were still working the bugs out of the newtwin cam in 99 and 2000. The cam chain shoe tensioners can't be trusted but the gear driven cams make a big difference.

Ok, it took HD 7 years to come up with a bike to go head to head with the Jackpot? Of course it has a retro-mod look and uses the standard HD catalog of parts and costs less than the JP, what if you compare it head to head with a standard Vegas? I demoed a HD Blackline last summer and before I even put it into gear, my mind was made up. The 8ball was the bike for me. Bettr fit and finish, better style (the front to back spine and frenched seat/tank, scalloped tank sides, hello!) Everyone has a right to their opinions, and after 7 years, it sounds like HD has finally started listening. HD buyers wish they could have a bike like a Victory!! And for another $4,000-6,000 you can upgrade to JP looks and performance too!

Agreed, My Son bought a Vegas 8 Ball last fall and the looks it gets at every stop is amazing. It's hard to take your eyes off of the lines.

I said.... Acording to Mike Shults. The last car off of an assembly line with a chain drive was the 39 Nash. And if my hunch is correct, that is what Vtwinspin was referring to. And I was just trying to explain that it was in reference to the primary drive....Not the timing chain.

Told you I was missing something! Thanks

Jellybean, I bet that you think a Harley does not vibrate at idle either.
I ride a Milwaukee vibrator and can say that with a stock exhaust I can barely hear myself think at a mere 55 MPH. At 65 MPH it is painful.
Until last week I owned a 1300cc Yamaha Royal Star Tour Deluxe that was relatively quieter at 65MPH, even though it had a far less effective fairing on it than my present HD has.

I have owned a number of Harleys and have nothing against them. I used to argue this point on the Honda boards and I will say it here, also. Harley and Vic is like comparing apples and oranges. The engines and drivetrains are different as well as the engineering and technogoly. I will not say that I'll never own another Harley, but if I do it will probably be a V Rod---and a 58 year old man doesn't look good on one of those.

I think I have had my fill of the "Twinky"-- and for the guys who want to talk about the cam tenionsers, you don't know Harley problems until you have a Magnely Moretti EFI.

But maybr the more fair comparrison would be The Jack Pot vs the Screamin Eagle Break out ??
You could do that, but you would be comparing an $18,500 Jackpot to a $26,500 CVO Breakout.

Since that is more than a 30% difference in price, without considering that you cant get the Breakout CVO out the door for under $28k, and I KNOW I could get a 2013 JP OTD for $18k even.

So, even though the listed prices are generous to the HD thats $8k extra.

Just give me $5k of the difference to modify the engine on the JP and would you still want to compare? Really? Youd like to compare a JP with 135/140 HP/TQ to the CVO? Oh yeah, and the Vic would still be more than 10% cheaper, even after giving me $5k to play with.

For me, no comparison, but I get that lots of guys have a connection to HD that goes beyond logic. I'm OK with that, but as the man said, it's not an objective comparison.
