I don't know if this will help you guys but I have an 07 vegas 8ball and swapped over to a 2012 Vegas bullet style headlight and this swap was all plug and play for me.
Do you know if the HID ballast will fit?

Depends on the ballast size.... I can see a single ballast fitting in no problem inside the round housing. On my Vegas, when I removed to round headlight there was a crap load of unused plugs. On the bullet style housing there's definitely a little more room but again it depends on how small the ballasts are for the HID. I will be installing a single HID on my Low beam this summer. From what I've researched, most people that have both hi and low hid only end up just needing the low beam only.

Don't loose hope yet!!! There are a small ballasts out there that might work with the round headlights. I have a spare round headlight at home and I could take some pics if you'd like to see how much space is inside of it.
