Rear audio preouts

Hey guys I see people a paying money for the rear speaker wire harness adaptor for faring mounted amp , it is a great option for people who don't want to splice wires or leave the sock wiring intact.

However I am cheap and also feel the shorter wire run produces less interference and stronger signal to the amp. With the adapter harness the preout wire will be running down the frame then all the way back up to your new amp. During that trip the signal will be getting weaker and picking up interference.

from looking at pics posted by Poseidon in his install write up I was able to trace the wires back to the faring using my multi meter , this is what I found.

This is the connector the "adaptor" harness plugs into.
This is the harness located in the faring with the wires , had to do a little leg work to figure out the channels but

orange/red wire = L+ & orange/black wire = L- .

Pink/red wire = R+ & pink/black wire =R-

I will add I have not done this on my bike yet so please if you decide to do it , double check every thing I have mentioned here and assume I am wrong.

That looks a little easier to find on the XC. The Magnum's harness has a lot more wires to sift thru. The Magnum has a plug that is probably 4" long that plugs into the top of the stereo unit and the harness for it is almost As big around as a 50 cent piece.

Lol yeah when I opened up the faring it was pretty easy to tell didn't really need the multi meter , but figured I'd test the continuity to make sure. Then I just cross referenced the wire positions in my plug with the picture of the adaptor you had posted to match up the colours so I knew which wire was what as the directions for your adaptor are labeled + and - for each channel.

Figured I'd share the discovery with the forum so I can find it in a few weeks when I wire my amp.

MRJ have you installed your amp yet? I'm getting ready to do the same on my XCT and need to find rear outputs for the line out converter. THanks.
No my bike is still in pieces still waiting on lost parts during shipping , from my understanding the rear wires are only a lower than normal voltage pre out for the trunk amp and not speaker wires.

The way I am suggesting using them is in the same way you would a pre out from a deck and abandoning the front speaker out puts all together.

I assume you are wanting to use a 4 Chanel line out converter and turn the amplified signals into pre outs and I don't think that can be done on these stereos unless you have the rear amp boosting that signal to the same as the front inputs, other wise your rear signal will be to weak. You do have me wondering if a 2 Chanel converter would actually work better then the low voltage preouts but I would think a good quality amp would have something similar built into it, maybe not.

I could be wrong tho I am no expert.

Check out Poseidon he has a thread in the magnum section where he did the complete arc audio install, the info you are looking for is in it.

Here is the link.

Arc Audio Magnum Install

Also, thought I would post these pictures of the differences in the Magnum's stereo harness that I mentioned earlier in the thread. This is why I didn't go digging thru the harness to find the right wires...
