Picked up this XC last fall. Over the winter I decided to black out the chrome and change the color but didn't want to ruin the factory paint. I sprayed it with Anthricite Gray Plasti Dip from dipyourcar.com. I also made some custom apes for it. I really like how it turned out. I think I might bend up some custom engine guards sometime in the near future and add some bag fillers.

Nice man. I did something similar in arctic black plasti dip. Soon I'm going to add some top coat plasti dip to see if it help with durability against scratches.

dipyourcar sells Dip Coat which is supposed to help with scratches. There are a bunch of videos on their Youtube channel. I applied it today. We will see how it holds up. I am waiting for the Cerakote to cure before I can ride.

tell me about these apes. i was thinking of doing the very same thing. just a couple inches lower.
The factory Vic Highball/Hardball handlebars just bolt right up...no cable changes needed at least for my 2012.
Break off / dremel out the tiny alignment pin in each of the switch controls for better clutch lever and front brake lever angle adjustment, set the bars how you like, up and front , lower and back, or somewhere in between, adjust the controls for lever angle and off you go.
The angle of the grip area on these bars are unique in that they allow for a full range of motion.
I added inside the handlebar heaters while I was at it.

So how does that work? Factory paint u derneath plastic? Does it peel off or so something?

What happens when you spill some gas on the gas tank?

How about the area where the seat meets the tank?

Anyplace that "rubs' will show thru...

Bugs...dirt...grim will get stuck to the fairing...

i have used it before...not a fan.

I painted the exhaust with CeraKote. The Plastidip will peel off when I want to remove it. It has held up pretty good. I haven’t had any issues with bugs or dirt sticking. I think the Dipcoat helps with that. It will discolor a little if gas gets on it. Just have to be careful. You have to understand this is a peelable coating and is a very inexpensive way to change the color and look of the bike. It will never be as durable as paint but if it gets scuffed I will just shoot another coat over it.

I feel like I spent the last 4 hours getting ready for the High School Prom only to have my 3 month old baby spit up breast milk all over my $200 dress......
Ok. Have things changed since I went to prom? My date did not have a three month old to spit up on her dress.
Good story though.
