Anybody using this in their Vision?? What is your opinion on the oil?? I now have 8,000 miles on my Vision and at 7,500 miles I changed the oil again with the Victory oil and after THAT oil change my transmission has become notchy. Thanks for the replies!!!

My 2 cents on a subject that has been beaten to death... I believe that Victory specifies 10W40 oil for their bikes. I am not sure how critical it is with air cooled bikes, but from building high-performance water-cooled engines, it was my understanding that you set the clearances in the engine according to the viscosity of the oil you planned to use. 20W50 will not flow as readily through an engine that has clearances set for 10W40. Kevinx, any thoughts on the subject?
Actually, Victory specs 20W-40, not 10W-40. Expressed differently, multi-viscosity oils have a viscosity index (resistance to sheer) of the lower number @ 40°C and the higher number at 100°. IMHO it's unlikely the 10 point difference @ 100°C will have any measurable effect on flow rates and protection in a production (read, wide tolerance) engine. Another thing to consider, 50W oil's flow rate at 100°C is much higher than 20W oil at 40°C. This fact alone allows you to draw the conclusion that the size of the oil journals in the Freedom motor are adequate to flow 50W oil at high temperatures.

I suspect the 2 main contributing factors for the Vic oil being a non-standard 20w-40 are differentiation and lower cost. The additive package required to allow an oil to perform across a wider range is more expensive.

I've got just over 6000 miles on my 10th Anniversary Vision and have been running Amsoil 10w40 since 500 miles on it. Runs 15 degrees cooler than the semi-syn from Victory, shifts much smoother and is noticeably quieter. I have had no clutch slippage issues, as some have eluded to would happen. My performance enhancer are: Ness Big Honkers, Ness twin suckers, VFC III from Lloydz, and ceramic coated exhuast pipes. I do plan on the stage 3 cams in the future. Gas mileage averages right at 46 mpg which is up from 42 before the switch. It is specifically designed with wet clutch application in mind as stated from the manufacturer. My oil temp dipstick has never went above 230 degrees when the outside air temp was 98 degrees in stop and go traffic down town Olympia, WA. I do know that dino oil starts to break down significantly @ 250 degrees. If you want to discuss this more email me @ gbc141b@comcast.net

Use no oil with friction modifiers, because of the wet clutch. I saw another post about Rotella T Triple-Protection, and it works very well, and costs a lot less than AMSOIL or PurePolaris, (both of which I have previously used) http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/ is more expert than I'll ever be. =Mark=

Keep in mind not all Syn oils change colors. They will look like new all the time. Oil for motorcycle is different from cars. The clutch fiber manufacturers say you can't switch back an forth you have to stay with one oil. Syn oil will be a better choice I use amsoil and went to fleet farm and bought 5 quarts for $60 bucks and picked up a fram oil filter for $6 bucks. I think thats a fair price in today's economy. If you ever get a leak and I hope you don't but Syn will run out like water at the garden hose where normal oil will not. I will not be around but some day every one will be asking what battery to use cause bikes will be electric.

Since I love oil threads... Remember Victory does not recommend full synthetics....
Don, that's not entirely true. They only "recommend" their oil which happens to be a synthetic blend. Nowhere in their literature or manual do they say anything about full synthetics. It's only some dealer mechanics and others with anecdotal evidence that do not recommend it. There, I've posted in an oil thread, my life is complete ;)

No it is not written but when Jeff was there we called the factory help line and the factory tech said he wouldnt recommend any full synthetic.

Voiding your warranty? You won't, necessarily, void your warranty by either using an oil, other than Victory or by going longer between oil changes. The manufacturer must prove that your failure to maintain your vehicle, at the recommended intervals is the cause of a covered warranty issue. I will continue to change my oil, using Mobil one v-twin, every 5K miles on my Kingpin, as I did on my Harley. i have better things to do than, unnecessarily, change my oil. Check your owner's manual. Can't find anything in mine about exceeding the recommended oil change interval voiding my warranty.

I use amsoil cause I couldn't find a store that carry's mobil 1. The price is about the same and I can go to fleet farm get the oil and pick up a fram filter for way less then a victory oil change. From what I have been reading as of late a lot of dealers don't have any oil. The same company that makes victory oil filters makes fram. One is $12.95 and one is $ 6.95.

So if a warranty claim gets denied are you paying for it since you are telling people not to follow their Owners manual? Vic states oil change intervals are 2500 miles not 5000 miles. Vic states to use semi synthetic not full synthetic. Vic states to use 20/40 yours is not... Do what you want to your own bike bike dont tell people that what you do is right... Remember Vic does not hold your extended insurance policy...

You found Amsoil for less then Vic oil? Shocking...
