There are pros and cons to going with the Vic lids.
Pros:
  • ABS - same materials as your bags
  • Fitment - same as stock size
  • Hardware fitment - locks and hinges work OOB
  • Painted to match from factory
  • Basically a plug n play situation
  • Cost
  • 6x9
  • No "finishing" required
Cons:
  • Availability
  • Speaker options (I like 6.5")
  • Price (depending upon options)
  • Paint
  • Space (undermount design takes up storage)
  • Free air design
I was at the show and played around with them. While this isn't official....it's my understanding you'll be able to buy the grills and lids (no speakers) for around $500.
For the aftermarket options (custom/HMD/HotVic/Rusty Jones/etc), you might have better luck. They are available now, yet require a bit of finishing. In all transparency, I have one of the first sets of HotVic lids (although I think we've concluded Rusty Jones had these made by whatever that shop is in NC). If you stare long enough, you'll see the imperfections....the right/left lids are slightly different, the color match is a bit off, I think the Polk speakers suck so I upgraded to Focals and the inner drilled holes was mostly an octagon. When I first heard about the lids (before the show), I was about to hauk mine on ebay for a BIN price. After seeing the lids in person, I'll keep what I have. While I'd PAY EXTRA to have ABS lids and a good fitment, I'd rather have my 6.5" in an enclosure to protect the underside of the speaker and save on storage space.
Really comes down to how much work you're willing to do....which isn't terribly difficult and whether you want plastic or fiberglass (well...we all would want plastic in a perfect world).
Hope this helps.

That's true, but what are you going to do with an aftermarket one, match the paint. Thus it is a common factor amongst all lids.
I'm repainting my entire bike....lil bits at a time. Granted..it's black. The tank, bags and front fairing are the last on the list. Everything else has been done (rear fender, side panels, speaker lids, front fender, cowling or whatever it's called andinner dash). In the grand scheme of "pimping out" a XC, I'd say having factory painted lids ranks pretty low....although it ranks very high for the guys getting started and stereo is priority #1.
