I am withholding jugement so far but want to see Polaris produce a truly modern engine and well behaved modern bike that they can paste that Indian name onto. That would truly get my interest.

Seems to me Polaris already did that with the Victory bikes. If they took the Victory engine and just pasted an Indian name on it they would be competing with themselves. Polaris is clearly going after the Harley market share with the traditonal looking Indian bikes and their traditional style engines. One of the biggets complaints from tried and true Harley riders when it comes to Victory is that the bikes look too modern, have no heritage and the engine doesn't look right. With Indian all those observations are no longer valid.

Rumor has it H-D will have a new and big unveiling as well very soon. This could get interesting

The big rumor is that HD will finally put out a water cooled touring bike. Rumor has been around for years, but I actually think it's going to happen this time.

Agreed! Harley owners are clearly the intended target.

Harley buyersnot just current owners I know 5 people in the past year who bought Harleys and two more planning on it. None has ever owned a bike before, none had ever been on a Harley before. Harley was all they knew.

True! However, I would caution your friends not to jump in and buy a 111 cubic inch 800+ pound bike as a first ride. Indian will need to put out the Scout or other smaller bike in order to have a viable entry level bike.
