The wife and I made the leap and bought our tickets to Thailand Dec 28th –Jan 13th. Our plan is to hangout in Bangkok the first 2 or 3 days and the last 2 or 3 days of the trip, outside of that we are open to exploring the country, we would even go check out the other countries around Thailand if it won’t take up too much time. We know the beaches are a must so we were thinking of doing that the later part of the trip. Any and all advice is welcome.
Thanks in advance,

I have a friend who just had her honeymoon in the Golden Triangle within the past six months. Amazing pictures! They were in Bangkok...craziness. Beautiful things, but there will be culture shock. She had some really stunning excursions in Chiang Mai (in the north) as well as Chiang Rai. Other places of note...Thaton, and a train ride along the River Kwai.

Also, get to Cambodia! There is so much history there. Phnom Penh, Angkor Wat, and Siem Reap were places shehad also gone. She also spent a little time in Laos, but I couldn't discearn any noteable places. Therecertainly is beautiful country there. Probably stay away from Burma.

I've been to Thailand many times, Do's - have a great time. Don'ts - don't cause trouble and you'll be right. And little things like buy bottled water for brushing teeth etc otherwise you'll be pissing out your arse.
So true and don't feed the monkeys. They will never leave you alone after that. Stay in the tour areas also. keep your wallet in your front pocket and passport safe.

Check out Pattaya Beach if you get a chance. It's about 150 km from Bankok to the southest along Hwy 7. Very nice beaches, good shopping and great restaraunts. Fun place!

I got many suits made including a Tuxedo from a Thai Tailer, if you goto the source you can get more fittings and get the best price. The Tuxedo cost me $130 cost $90 to rent one here so its paid itself off.

If you are after cheap clothes goto MBK in Bangkok in Siam Square.

While the misses is getting her hair done go get yourself a soapy massage

Yes you need the shots, you should also consider malaria meds, if you have a chance, Chaing Mai in the north is nice and has a great nightly street market, also Koh Phi Phi in the south is nice, everything is very affordable, flights around the country are fairly cheap on Thai Air, but Don't try driving in Bangkok, you will see what I mean.... make sure any water you drink is bottled and that the seal is intact, of course Beer is cheap, "Beer Chang" is my local favorite. It helps a lot if you learn a few phrases in Thai, please, Thank you, Do you have a bathroom Etc. also learn a bit about there customs, do's and don'ts,its easy to offend someone by doing something that you would consider normal. touching a child or person on the head, or pointing your feet at someone are simple things that could cause offence, also public showings of Loud angry talking. Having said that the Thai People are very accomadating and friendly to foriegners.you will love the country, I visited Thailand a few years ago, and fell in love with the people and country

I was in Thialand for work 2 years ago for a few weeks. Stayed inPattaya as we have a plant close to there I think the hotel we stayed was called the Amari or something like that. Man do I have some stories to tell. I could fill a book, what a different culture, the sex trade is huge in Bangkok and Pattaya so like some other have said just about anything goes. If I were a single guy I probably would have been in a lot of trouble. I enjoyed the resturants and I even ventured to eating some food from the street vendors (fried toads and scorpions) after one night of drinking and a dare. Going up to Walking Street every evening and poeple watching was my favorite thing to do. I might be headed back this next year, got a Nicholas Golf Course I want to play next time I go back, ate there for lunch one day. Gem trade business is big and I bought a few and brought them back but I used some locals form the plant we work at to help me broker deals so I did nto get taken by a piece of glass. Like I said I have ton of stories, loved the time over there and looking forward to going back.

I always check the CIA world fact book before my international travels, I go overseas a lot. Register in the Department of State STEP program and know the numbers for the Embassy and Consulate in the areas you plan on going just in case you run into trouble. Make sure to have plenty of copies of your travel docs, save a digital copy in your email in case you lose your passport. It's easier for the Embassy to get you a new copy if you have the old one on record. There's a ton of info on how to safeguard your belongings becuase you'll stand out as a tourist. If you want any detailed tips PM me and I'll give you a detailed rundown. Oh and don't forget the most important thing, HAVE FUN!
