It's not Apple. It's a factory that Apple contracts to build phones for them. The company is actually A Chinese manufacturing company named Foxconn.
That being said, I'm with you, "not my thing". Honestly though, I don't think it's anyone's thing. Many different companies build electric bikes that perform well and you still don't see them on the road.

No...it IS owned by Apple. Of course the major news stations who are carrying the story could be wrong.....that NEVER happens.

Very few MC people will purchase an e-bike...it just doesn't have the ball rattle/ear, massage thingy happening. :D imho of course.

Be prepared to be surprised, then. Gobs of torque. You can hear your surroundings- which is cool. You could probably hear your iPhone playing music in your pocket.
100 mile range is not bad. Commuting to work would be a blast and Uncle Sam probably has some ridiculous incentive for us to buy one.

One of my neighbors had the government pay for 3/4 of their new electric golf cart because it could seat 6 people and qualified for some stupid program...that the rich golfers probably came up with.

No f*cking thank you. All these E-bikes are so small and compact. And they all look exactly the same. And not one can deliver the miles per charge that they claim. And the minute you put the smallest of bags on the machine to carry anything, your mileage goes right down the toilet. And sure, lots of torque, but then what? You get to 80, 90 maybe, and that ... is...it! Except in the case of the Energica, which can actually haul the mail - for about 30 miles! And, and, and. No sound, no clutch, no gears (except for the EmpulseTT) = no fun. I try to be open minded about these little toys, but I'm sorry - E-bikes suck ass. Period.

I think the best application for these E-bikes is in the off-road category, and even then only for VERY local loops or race sprints. You don't want to get out in the field with one. It'll be a long walk home.

Come on man, don't hold back, tell us how you really feel! LOL ;)

A comment you will NEVER hear spoken - "Yah Dude, I'm trading this Panigale for a nice new ZERO". HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Real men only drive standard transmissions and use a clutch....oh, wait....nearly all trucks are automatic, and all the new transmissions coming out don't even have gears, they have a drive belt and variable pulley like a snowmobile.....

Things change. If you need a clutch to feel good, good on you. I personally love the gears and clutch and vibration and clunking. The evolution of the E bike is similar to early motorcycles. It's kinda cool to watch and we WILL see bikes that can go the distance.

Complaining that they are "small" is silly. You don't develop technology by producing some chrome laden behemoth that no tattooed, over-weight, half shaven "biker" would ride. A smart man produces a small commuter bike that the MAJORITY of the world rides.

All that said -- please don't take it as a shot at you personally. Just adressing a common closed mind view of a great technology. Thankfully, right now, there is something for everyone in the USA. It will not always be that way.

I may be mistaken but I do not believe Apple owns Foxconn. I work in the SMT industry with many of my customers providing products for Foxconn and I am pretty sure they also manufacture LG, Sony and Nokia devices as well as some other less well-known companies. Last year I heard they bought the majority of Sharp Electronics. They also teamed up with an electric auto company last year to build autonomous electric cars. Chances are that this is a spin-off of that marriage.

Most people (if they know the name) remember the high suicide rate when they hear the name Foxconn. I think several years ago they had a 15 or 20 suicides in 12 months, which may not seem like a lot in general but in one company, I think that's a lot.

By the way, I am not an Apple fan, but after having worked with Apple engineers and their suppliers and their suppliers' suppliers, they have extremely tight tolerances and leave very little room for error in the manufacturing and assembly of their devices for the most part.
