I have an ATC 250SX three wheeler that does snow plow duties during winter, but eventually I'd like to get a new 4x4 quad as a replacement. I keep banging my left knee on the plow drop handle.
I never owned or even ridden a quad, but the few I threw an eye at seem to be automatic transmissions which seems crazy to me.
I like shifting!
Anyway I'd like to get your guys point of view on quads, and some pics never hurt either!

When I get one it would be both for recreation and utility.
I like mountain trail riding, and when on the other side of the state some fun in the sand.
I've heard that in this state (WA) you can license them for street use, but I haven't confirmed it yet nor have I seen a confirmed legal one on the street.
I see street legal dirt bikes all the time though.

The CVT is the most durable. The belt is always in constant contact with the pulleys of the primary and secondary. All of the other manufactures allow the the belt to slip at idle to disengage the drive line.
I found this video about what you were saying. Pretty interesting.
I think I'm getting a little sticker shock though! Lol!

I did a look up and they do have a Four trax 420 Rancher 4x4 that's shifted like normal...they also have the auto's as well. Seems like some of the older sales videos for the Yamaha have pointed out the advantages of the Yamaha over the Honda. Too bad this video is 7 years old as it's very informative...just don't know if the same is true for the 2018's.

I'd like to have a couple of those atc's.
I sold the 125m last year and only had one guy come and looked at it. It was in great condition and I didn't get a lot for it. Just needed the room and it had to go. The 200X in the background is my older daughters. I took it down to the frame and had it and the tank painted in white a few years back. I'll take it to her in Wisconsin as soon as she finishes her garage. The 250SX has been a fun and a work horse on occasion, but eventually it will most likely go too. I had it's tank painted in white and a new seat made along with new plastics.
There is a guy who makes new top quality Honda ATC's in the 450cc range, but they are just for fun and don't have a reverse.

I got my first one when I was 10 and could ride the crap out of that little 70. I was riding it on the two side wheels for fun within a couple days.
As long as a person takes the time to learn the right way to ride them it really is hard to get hurt.

Looks like a great place to ride!
That trail system is even known about way over here on the other side of the country.
I'm going to go sit on a couple quads, and see how they feel.
I don't have room for one just yet, but I like to know what I'm going to get before I get it.

I was at the Yamaha dealership this evening pretty set on a Grizzly.
I sat on the Kodiak 450 and that thing was comfortable with plenty of room and I ain't a little guy.
Next I sat on a Kodiak 700 EPS and thought now this is just a touch bigger than the 450.
Then I sat on the Grizzly and it was a little bigger than the Kodiak 700.
After I sat there a minute or so I noticed the upper ridge of the seat pressing against my inner thigh and thought I didn't remember the other quads doing that so I went back for another round of sittings. When I got to the Kodiak 700 this time I knew it was the one as it felt seamless when I squeezed the sides, but I tried the Grizzly once ,more and the seat just didn't agree with me so I had some thinking to do.
After I got home I went to their website and it also showed a Kodiak 700 EPS SE that wasn't at the dealership and I like the Silver Metallic, Mag wheels, and adjustable preload shocks, and all for just a few hundred more. Ain't that the way it always is?!

Regardless of the animosity here, were I in the market I'd also look at what Polaris has to offer. Judging by my CCT, they know how to build good stuff.
I held my nose and looked into the Polaris quads. What I found was a powerful well priced quad that had some reliability issues or at least that what the guy on youtube said! Lol!. Also knowing how Polaris likes valve train noise I wasn't very enthused for that as I don't plan on having a super loud exhaust to cover it up anyways so I guess my querry into them was at arms length.

I was talking to one of the guys at work and he suggested I look into CFMoto.
I had already looked at one (been busy at it this week!), but was leary as it was Chinese. The dealer said they were good and were made at a super nice state of the art plant, but couldn't do it. The guy at work said his kid had one and it was reliable which is good to know.

Just like motorcycles, get one that suits your needs and have fun with it, they are all capable machines.
Your absolutely right. There are a bunch of really nice quads out there, and I have committed to one of them!
Today I ordered up a 2018 Yamaha Kodiak 700 EPS SE in Silver Metallic from Lynnwood Motoplex. I spoke on the phone a few times with Taft Matherly the sales rep, and he was outstanding.
He took my information and the bike should arrive Friday. He'll get it prepped and truck (approx 2 hrs) it up to my place and sign papers at that time. Sorta like ordering a really expensive pizza!
I got the street kit for it so after I get that stuff installed, get the bike inspected, and pay another tax it'll be street legal.

Thanks guys for all the great advice!
