A couple of weeks ago I spun a bearing in the 21" front wheel on my XC. So like the crazed idiot that I am. I started looking around at other brands to see what was going on. Noticing that tires were starting to get wider instead of taller these days. I decided to see what I could do on a shoestring. First I used a tire calculator, and found that a 160/60 is only about 8mm taller then a 130/70.....Then a little bit of prayer, and what the heck thinking. I ordered a cheap Perelli rear tire, and installed it backwards on the front. Looks cool as hell. Still to early to tell how I'm gonna like it, but it feels about stock comp side.JPG comp front.JPG

Rollin was sure thinking outside of the box with the front tires he used on the rough roads in Alaska. If it works out for you I may try it on the Vision. Do you think it will add to the stable feeling upfront?

Exactly which Pirelli? I'm due for a front and may try this on my Vision.

Can you do that on stock rim and if so do you happen to know the size and have a suggestion?

Since that is my bike, and my stock rim.....The answer is yes, but it is fun to get mounted. The tire I used was chosen for price as much as anything else. I didnt want to spend a bunch, and have it not work....Here is the info from Dennis Kirk
    • Rear Angel GT 160/60ZR/18 Blackwall Tire - 2317900
    • Part # 544298
    • Price with shipping was a hair under $128

nice set-up kevinx, I've been wishing for a long time that some bike tire company, would come out with a 23x180- low profile tire for the front, I think that would be the ultimate in looks & handling, combined with a 200x18x50 in the rear, that way we could set up our bikes, more nascar style, instead of drag bike style, I think they would handle/corner better that way to, due to the extra rubber on the road

I like my Judge tires, 140/90 & 160/90 on 16" rims... I've always found that a wider front and reasonable rear is the best for handling.

Nice work with the innovative solution.

A rear tire and front tire have the grooves oriented opposite each other. The front needs to cut into the road, and the rear needs to push through the road. So you reverse the rear tire when installed on the front; to keep, the grooves going the right direction

hmmm, I figured they were directional but I would have also thought they both run same in same direction. Now I'm really curious and will have to take a closer look at the way my tires are oriented.

Kevinx, You may have the only front Darkside only bike out there!
Pretty cool, and another option for those with daring intent.
