I know some of you get to still ride this year. For others of us though, the season is over, and all we have is memories. What was your favorite ride of 2016? Where should the rest of us plan on getting to "next year" if we have not been there yet?

For me, I could revive @CaliPhil 's thread, "I love my wife". I spent Oct 24th, our 35th wedding anniversary covering the hills and back roads of western Wisconsin. How many wives would be satisfied with a nice meal out while on a ride for their anniversary?

A few pic's from the ride. Knew it was time to call it a day when I started seeing pink elephants. Still on the way home, came across an old mill on a dam.

(Trying a tight u-turn on a hillside I wound up using the TO's, but she said "I won't tell anyone if you don't.", but I had to fess up to you guys.)

Mine was a short season. But had to have been a solo from Chicago to Mackinac for a week. Perfect weather all week, great UP Mich and Canada Tour, over the bridge a few times, just putzin in my own time. Was surprised how well the KP did on a 7.5 hour run of 460 miles in a day. Was actually pretty enthused. That's when I knew I really liked this bike. Comfort, handling and power. Its a keeper.

I would like to get to Mackinac. We've talked of going next year. We could do a loop and take the ferry back to avoid Chicago. I understand the ferry has special tie-downs for motorcycles, but would have to do more research on that first.

We went to Estes Park for our 25th anniversary. WE stayed at the Stanley Hotel in room 217. No ghost. I was looking to. Took a ride on the trail ridge road. Along the road in a stream I stopped to see a Moose cow with baby. I got to see my mountain Longs Peak. 14,256 ft. I climbed that with 4 other friends when I was 17 . We had a wonderful time.

Mine is the blues bikerfest in Silver city NM. Rode thru the Gilas. Came back thru the old highways and farms. Just me and Anni. 1st days off, 2, in 18 years so very much enjoyed. No pics because stupid action camera rotated, internally, upside down. Gave me headache trying to look at it. Cheap Chinese junk camera. So the trip is even dearer. Christmas should be changing my video challenge. Good thread!

The day as in over a 24 hour period we spent. At the flight 93 Memorial and Gettysburg battle grounds. The Flight 93 Memorial was much more than we expected and I suggest all take the time to see this bit of heroic history. Our time in Gettysburg was especially good. I had arranged for us to take a 2 hour guided motorcycle tour. Our guide suggested we would get a more informed tour in his van since we were a small group. We opted for that trip. Our 2 hour tour lasted for over 4 hours. Then we took he and his wife to lunch. This is a link to the guide service our guide was Jim.

We spent several days riding some new territory in Texas. We went to the Davis mountains and saw a lot of different terrain. A whole lot of wide open roads and spaces. Some really fascinating points of interest also, like the Old historic Fort.

Mine was taking my very first long tour and it was solo.
Most of the time I slept till I woke up and then traveled all day and some into the night with near midnight being the longest. Spent an evening cruising Sturgis.
One day I got a dynotune at The Vic Shop in Iowa, ate lunch with the guys, and still made it to Bloomington Illinois before stopping for the night.
I rode from the northwest corner of Washington State to North Carolina to visit my daughter at Camp Lejeune.
After a few days there and replacing a leaking no brand valve cover gasket with a Vic one I started my return trip. On the way home I had to fight thunder storms and severe weather nearly every day. At one point everyone on the interstate pulled over and stopped...yes it got that bad!
I swung by Mount Rushmore as the weather wasn't bad at that point of the day.
I ended up getting home a couple days before I had to go back to work. Round trip was 16 days.

Any one of the circuits from home to the beach to home again via the so called scenic route along the coast......

Yea I know none of you know where that is but it is a pretty slow ride on a short stretch of road that has corners signed as low as 25 kph.... The big old XCT just lumbers round them at an angle that feels like one is really going through some great sweepers...... It can be fun.....

You need two tie-downs...I suggest with ratchets. That said, it's a GREAT ride across, we took it to end our trip:
Starting in Houghton Lake, MI went north and took RT 2 across to Washington going thru Glacier Park, Yellow Stone, Tetons, Bear Tooth and down coast thru Oregon into California. Turned and headed back when 1/4 LB burger in CA was $13.95. 25 days of riding...6000 miles

Yeah that Indiana Skyway through South Chicago to 94 sucks. The ferry is expensive though. Its like 70 bucks 1 way last I looked. BUT worth it to avoid the BS of riding through Chicago and save about 20 bucks in tolls. Or you could take it West a bit further south and turn up north o smaller highways. Just takes longer. Let me know if you may head there.
