Motorcycle.com just named the Cross Country as the best cruiser.

They say fabulous things about it but, its a tourer.

The Cross Roads may remotely be a cruiser but really the Vegas, Jackpot, KP, and maybe even Hammer are cruisers.

When you have huge bags, hard fairings, stereo systems etc. hmm. Then for touring they put up a BMW with less luggage and hard pegs with a mention to the Gold Wing.

Somebody is really confused, probably me :)

It had me scratching my head too. Doesn't Victory classify the Cross Country as a Touring Bike?

Either way, a win is a win!

In case you didn't receive the email from Victory, here it is:

Don, how on earth is a stereo, hard fairing, big floor boards, massive luggage not a touring bike?

What does a touring bike have to have the CC doesn't?

I didn't ask what it needs to be a good touring bike but its purpose built to tour.

Anyhow your last discussion was on the Cross Roads.

Not everything makes it into the videos, I would have to go back and check. But a full blown touring bike should be made from the ground up for one purpose. A CC is a CR with a fairing, if I take a Kingpin and add a fairing is it a touring bike? Not really, but you can tour with it. Also a touring bike should have a trunk or the option of a trunk, that has been addressed this year. I'm not the only one that feels this way, even my contact at the factory told me that when I was having problems with the Vision and looking to replace it. There are a few people here that can verify that.

I agree 100% with that. The KP is the only touring bike.

I thought it was built from the bottom up with the core frame of the Vision. (the touring bike)

So I guess its tradition, Gold Wing, Ultra, Vision, and Venture are the only touring bikes in the universe then. Even though the Venture still has a cassette lol.

Oh, that BMW in that article is a sport tourer IMHO not a tourer.

The CC is just a pretty bar hopper. Almost as pretty as the LE.
If you really want to go anywhere you need a Kingpin.
WTF are you smoking??? Bar Hopper??? Yeah, maybe if the Bar I'm going to is 400 miles away.
SurreyVIC,

You have to know Rollin.....that was more than just a little bit of sarcasm.

I don't know my motorcyclist magazine put it up against the Road Glide.

Some parts were better, some worse, which I agree with.

The most suprising is that the HD 96 makes more TQ or equal than our 106's up to around 3500.

So if you're going to race an HD make sure it's a 1/4 miler or better so that you can take advantage of the higher RPM better power numbers.

The CC could be considered a touring bike - if you base it on what the magazine had to look at their their touring bike category. 2010 didn't have a trunk so I could see that, but then the bike they picked for touring bike of the year doesn't come with a trunk - though has the option. However, the CC does have touring bike options like heated grips and reverse.

I think its more than any of this. I think the magazine is in the pocket of BMW so it wanted to give that little sport touring bike the tourer award knowing full well the CC was the superior bike. So they stuck it in that section so as not to ignore it.

The Thunderbird and Rocket do not come with standard hard bags, fairings, reverse, heated grips etc. They were the honorable mention and they are cruisers.

It just made no sense at all to me.
