I am trying to lay up some spare parts for my 1999 V92c. I found a low mileage engine and transmission (allegedly good...) with the code MCVT1507D-02. The guy who is selling it thinks it is from a 1999, but I am uncertain since this is different than the code on my bike. Does anyone know what the code tells me about the engine?

I think I answered my own question. The 1507cc displacement would put it as a 2002 or later engine, not a 1st generation 1500cc. This would make it the first of the Freedom series, as I understand it.....

99 was also 1507. Got a picture of the motor you are looking at?

The code on my '99 engine is MCVT1500D-01. It was sold in Jan of 1999.

First that is a first ten engine, and defiantly not a freedom. The drive pulley tells me it is a 99-00 engine. Hard to see the finish on the engine. If it is smooth and glossy it is a 99. If it is textured and matte. It would be an 00

Thanks Kevinx, that is very helpful. I am pretty sure the motor itself is ok. The tranny is the big unknown, and that is a key point of interest to me. I think I can pick it up fairly cheap, so I may just take a flyer on it.

I think I will wind up keeping my eyes open for a 02-05 Freedom motor/trans with a more certain history. Seems to make the most sense.

Is there anyway to tell if the transmission upgrade has been done from looking at the outside. My bike also has the number mcvt1507d-02 and I was told that when the bike went to the dealer for the recall the guy paid the difference for a new engine and an entire new transmission

The placement of the speed sensor will tell you if the upgrade has been done or not. I believe that if the speed sensor is pointing at the drive pulley/gear on the right side of the motor then the upgrade has been done. If the speed sensor is more towards the middle of the motor on the back of the case behind the rear cylinder then the upgrade has not been done and the engine is original.

    Good luck! Hope this helps
