Got up the energy to finally install my timing wheel on my 13 today. It wasn't bad but the old gasket was in bad shape. It came off in pieces and had several stuck on sections.

Currently it is set to +4 and I have no ping. I only did a short ride around my neighborhood and some tight circles to try it out. All seems well and it really seems to want to go now at the first movement of the clutch.

Good Job, I found that on my Vision 4 degress caused slight pinging under uphill climb and freeway with trunk and bags loaded. I backed it down to a spot between 2 and 3 degress and it got rid of it. She don't like cheap gas and anything around 90 octane with ethynol crap it causes it to ping when the outside temp gets 95 or higher. I stashed a bottle of 104 in the bags for that reason. Enjoy your ride of the Three sisters.

Yep, the Vision seems to be all over the place with wheel settings. Figured I'd start at the top, which is where it was already set, of what I've seen work and go back if needed.

I run mid or high at all times and will have to see if I can find some uphill climbs to test for pinging.

Riding to work today I got to see just how the timing wheel helps. It really makes the bike smooth in the lower gears and I may be crazy but seems to make it more quiet too.

Now I just need to try it two up to see how much better it is there.

FWIW mine is at 4. I always prefer no ethanol high octane but now and again can only get 87 if I'm in the boonies and risk running out of gas, include high altitudes out west and sea level elsewhere, and never any pinging regardless. SInce then my Vision has been VicShop tuned and has a controller, cams, and other goodies - but for whatever reason the +4 setting has worked great, zero issues.

Thanks.

That's why I started at +4. I figured it is easy enough to go down but I wanted to make sure it was needed after reading about bikes like yours. So far so go for me.

I just installed one on my '11 Vegas yesterday, before I left work (I work in a shop, so that's where my tools are). I set it at +6 degrees to start. I couldn't do a thorough test though, because I live only 12 miles out from Boston; traffic is a *****. I did get a couple of good pulls in, and I haven't heard any pinging at all. Also didn't seem to be THAT much difference in power, but I obviously can't really say for sure until I can actually RIDE the damn thing. Jose is raining on us the next couple of days though, so I won't be able to ride it until then.

Speaking of octane ratings & timing wheels:
2013 CCT with wheel at plus 4.
I have always used the mid grade & any brand that was convenient & the bike runs fine.

During Irma gas stations were running out & when they got gas a lot of times it was the low octane.
Figured I'd put it in & just ride easy but with old age coming in & the memory going out I'd forget to take it easy.
Damn Vic ran fine.

On the other hand when I tried it in the Guzzi Griso that Italian did not like cheap wine! LOL.

Are you ready to take on your buddy's new CVO? Careful not to get any speeding tickets. I hear the cops are real ball busters down there!

I ran +6 on my CCT for the entire year. Had to run premium in the hot months (very slight ping). Recently put it at +3 and I think it runs smoother. Doesn't have the throttle "tip in" at the start like +6 had but at 2800 to 3200 rpms 75-85mph is it much smoother feeling. +6 felt "nervous" and raucous at cruising high speeds. It was glass smooth last weekend.

I've been having trouble finding mid or high at the pumps since the hurricane. Until last night I was eventually able to get some but last night after checking a few places I was on fumes so I had to go with regular. I only put in three gallons to get me where I need the next couple days. Today it was 95F riding between doctors appointments and work and all is well. No ping at all. It wasn't the greatest test but it gives me hope that +4 for my bike will be just fine.

Running mine at +4 with O2 sensors unplugged. Atom Bomb pipes. I get some acceleration pops at gear changes, no decel popping. Runs strong.
Same with my 11 with the acceleration pops; 02s, Atom Bomb Pipes.. Was told it was due to the Atom Bomb pipes. Also have controller and has be dyno'd...

Been wanting the timing wheel.. Will be ordering soon for fall riding..

Ride often and safe..

No restriction on wide open atom bombs so they pop a bit is what I've been told. I may experiment with smaller orifice tips to increase a little back pressure.
