I was there last year , for the 79th.
While I enjoy seeing all the bikes / people / and freaks .....

It took me just one day to realize I needed to get out on the roads early for any real riding.....and save the other things for mid day.

I will likely never go to Sturgis. While it all seems interesting, it's not for me. I go places to ride to and around those places. When I'm sitting, it's already late, and either dinner or around the "camp fire" with friends. The rest of the day, I want to be riding. And our little gathering in Texas of around 20ish bikes is just the right size for me. The clearer the roads, the better the riding.

I’ve always considered Sturgis to be the Biker’s Mecca. Gotta visit at least once. I visited 5 times. Would like to do it at least one more time before hanging up the key for good. It’s a personal choice. I respect Mag’s decision. It’s not for everyone. Sure, there are lots of 1% dirt bags there but the vast majority are ordinary folk who change their persona for the time they are there. And it’s policed extremely well.

Been there twice, I get saturated pretty quick with the crowds and traffic and needed to get out of town and ride. However everywhere I went within 100 mi. was crowded with bikes! We ran into several people that go every year some for the past 20+ years! I don't get that.
Last trips there were in '98 & 2010. Went with my brother in '98 camped in a couples back yard right in town on Sherman St. we had a blast.
2010 I went alone and Camped at Glencoe in a friends Motorhome. The Rig next to us was Gene Hackman and his son! He was a really down to earth fun guy to hang with. GlenCoe is a real freakshow asnd crazyness though. Lots of Nudity, 98% of which should be covered up! My trip got cut short as I had to leave to help a fellow GWRRA member who had an accident in Iowa. Cashed my Hilton Honor points for his wifes room and got his bike and trailer emptied out and secured. He had a broken leg, collar bone and torn ligaments, scraps and bruises. That was the end of his riding days. I'd go back one more time but it is a Long ride from TX.
After two trips riding there, I call it Sturgis Trailer Rally because about 2/3+ of the bikes at Glencoe came in on a trailer.

Brutal injuries. Months of recovery. Maybe still recovering as the older we become, the harder the body suffers.

Now, having said what I did earlier, I would love to go ride the whole area/state. Just not with the crowds. I will do this some day. Retirement coming soon but not soon enough.

I sure wish I was there! I've only been once. I rented a house lower floor and attached garage so nice quite night, but the riding in the day was very fun even with some bad weather, and the bikes while alot of them weren't too many. In town was a little too busy for me.

If you feel like you need to go then go. Your a grown adult making decisions that work for you and no one else. I’ve been going to Sturgis since 1982 I have only missed two of them this year being the second one. I chose to stay away due to the pandemic my choice no big deal not like I feel like I’m missing something I haven’t seen before. For the last 25 years I always arrive 3 to 4 days prior to the start of the rally and roll out usually right after rally starts. Plus I’m usually on my way home from a 2 weeker off the west coast.I think it’s a much better time the vendors are there the only thing you miss is the music the price gouging and the ridiculous crowds but that is JMO. Just didn’t think it was a good move for me.

Bringing home a virus isn't your freedom choice. But it is Nature's way of getting rid of the excess population.
