Hey, Has anyone stayed at the Villages West Resort/Hotel for past AVR's? Rooms are becoming scarce and they seem to have some availability. Reviews look a little sketchy, so wondering about any of you VOGers first hand experiance there. Or suggestions for other hotels that may have rooms. Thanks!!

I have not stayed there. What I can tell you about the area is it's Iowa's version of a resort town. All of the businesses basically have a short Iowa summer to make money because it's a ghost town all winter. You can find a reasonably priced cheeseburger and beer, but when it comes to hotel rooms expect to pay close to double what you think the room should go for.

Plan to go for the first time this year. Guess I will sleep in a ditch. o_O
Must be somewhere within 60 miles? That's how far I stay out of Sturgis. Love my early morning rides.

Even better. Estherville and Spencer both are only about 15 miles away and have normal priced hotels. The road to Spencer is a divided 4 lane through wide open spaces. The road to Estherville is 2 lane with more hills and woods. I've never had an issue traveling the area, but I like my odds vs deer after dark on the road to Spencer better.

    What Ace said.....any dates?
Better yet, any band line-up been announced?
You basically have 3 options. Stay close to the action (don't ride your bike after drinking, duh), stay at a lake resort or stay in a nice hotel. Unfortunately, you can't really have all 3....you need to pick one.

The dates are posted as August 15-16, 2014. The band line up is usually not announced until late spring/early summer. I went 2 years ago, and had a great time. I stayed at the Lake Okisomethingorother Inn, and it was a locally owned motel. We had Lloyd from the Motorworks fame and Scott from Conquest Customs at the motel as well. We roomed next to a group of guys from Texas that were quite hospitable. Made lots of new friends.
If you are on the bubble about going, pull the trigger. It is only a couple days long, but it was a blast.
Ace- We went past your house onour way out there. We took Rt30 all the way to western Iowa. It was a neat ride. much more fun that slabbing I80.

    Ace,
I got my info from the VMC. They have a forum area set aside for the AVR. The date should be solid. Enjoy the show.

I'll book when the bands are announced....as that determines whether I'll need a room within driving or walking distance.
Otherwise, I just want to show Ace how much money he made me toss into my motor to make mine look like his.
