The wife and I just did 700 miles this past weekend and the tranny noise didn't bother us a bit. :>)
I was concerned that we wouldn't be able to hear the radio with the earplugs in, butwas pleasantly surprised to find thatwe could actually hear it better!
Does anyone else use earplugs for long trips? We'd like to look into getting some that are custom fitted. Any suggestions on where to get them?
Also, Inoticed a significant reduction in tranny noise after the 2500 mile oil change. 4th and 6th gears are still the worst offenders, but even without the "transmission noise reduction modules" shown above, it is much better than it was.

I have found that gun-shows, Rocky Mountain Elk conventions, NRA shows, and shooting clubshave vendors (or know about) that make the custom ear plugs. Some farm implement shows also have these same vendors. Some are even reactive to loud noises (surprise!) but filter out other stuff. Maybe these would work for you.
It's possible that your simple solution would be the best and least expensive for what you want to do.

I do not use plugs on the Vision because of all the protection but use them on my KP. Use a different oil (I use Amsoil) and the noise will be less.

I use Ness's Big Honkers and amped up my stereo system. Noise??? What noise!!!
ZZ Edmonds knows what I mean. I can hear his stereo up here in Canada!!!!!! The man is so talented , he's probaly got his own sattelite to boost better reception to his bike.

Yep, I wear them, Got a set at the last NASCAR race I was at that has them on a string( plastic ) that way I don't lose them. Yes just like Mom use to make you wear your mittens all those years ago. Maybe some not so long ago.. :)

I find the stero is a little muted but much more clear. Transmission noise, never noticed it on mine, Just passed the 5600KM (3500Mi) mark.

Surrey, Is that where all that load music is coming from.. I thought it was kids riding in thier tuners. or is that you out on the west coast..

I tried the Amsoil Bubba, but it kept running out of my ears, LOL!!Lordy, I crack me up.
Seriously, the fact that the tranny noise disappears for like 500 miles after an oil change is just weird to me!
Knowing that the noisy straight cut gears are stronger for being cut that way, and having a 5th gear that is like a silencer, is enough for me.
Plus I'm coming from a VERY loud HD exhaust system,,,,

I use a set I got at the AMA bike show. They are made by big ear inc (www.bigearinc.com). I just have the ear plugs not the horribly overpriced ones with the headphones. I got a set years back made at the gun club that I used for shooting sports. I lost those last year and needed new ones. The form fitting ones do work better then the foamies. I use them mostly for wind noise as the Jackpot doesn't offer the wind protection you guys get. As others have said, gun shops/clubs might know of a local person or keep an eye out for them at bike shows, rally's etc.

I have used both the custom order ear plugs and the foam ones. The foam ones work hands down better than the customs. I talked to the gal that did the custom plugs and my ear test and she said the foam ones seal better. So that is all I use now.
