I have the installation instructions which when read back to front also serve as removal instructions. Is the gear that moves over into the front pulley not going all the way over and is that what’s grinding? I can certainly email you the pdf if needed.

I hope you can find the cause and a cure. Sadly, some of the individual parts are NLA.

I have had to replace the key on the shaft at least once. I believe it is designed the shear if you do something like pop it into first when you are drunk. Otherwise it is pretty simple. Just adjust the action rod to some place between too far and not far enough and it will work. There is a kill switch in there that I believe is supposed to shut the motor off if you engage the gear at the wrong time. I have replaced my under drive pulley so I’ve been in there at least two or three times now. As far as the wiring goes it could be as simple as a plug and play with the harness might already be set up just to plug the thing in but I’m not sure about that. As far as the hardware goes it’s just the sprocket on the end on the pulley and a little motor in the mechanism to move engagement gear in and out. Something does tellThe electricity to stop going to the starter motor and start going to the reverse motor when you put it in gear or engage it but other than that I’m not sure what else the wiring system looks like for the kit

One thing I didn’t notice was that you need to take the exhaust system off to get the outside cover off if you really need to investigate the drive . My shop manual discusses the reverse system in pretty good detail

I removed the screws from the gear cover and heard a clank. I moved the trike forward and back. A piece of the bracket that holds the idler and pinion gear fell out and one screw closest to the wheel goes into that piece. I need to find the circuit that is attached to the limit switch to jumper so i can start the trike. It does look like I will have to remove the exhaust system. That scares me because the bolts are rusted and may break

Liberal amounts of penetrating spray after cleaning rust off threads with a brush, allow overnight time to soak in & may hafta use a small propane torch to heat up threads so will come loose. Have patients & you’ll get it.
