thank you all for the wisdom , i am 65 and my lecturers contract runs out July 2022 so that will mean I'm still 6 months short of retiring with a government pension (66 .5) ,I am very active and most of my mates have told me to think long and hard about the next step and make sure you have a plan , i live in Western Australia and yes will hitch up my little caravan and hit the road going bush for 6 months & then on the Judge and ride east to catch up with family and friends .
i have worked hard all my life as a tradie on the tools and am looking forward to my time .
stay safe all ,shinny side up !

My wife and I retired in 2010 at just 51. We had good jobs, properties and big supers. Our retirement plan was to have no plan. Each week and day we decide what we may want to do or sometimes just do nothing.
For us, retirement is just like being on holidays but we never have to go back. For us, retirement is wonderful. No one says on their deathbed “ I wish I spent more time at work”.

That is great, wish I was that smart. On my third marriage now probably why it has taken so long to retire. Some of us never learn from our mistakes. Or as I use to say " Blinded by the boobs ". LOL...

Nothing but admiration and respect for all you who retired ‘early’, had a good plan and worked that good plan.

Rich is OWNING your days to do whatever. If you are healthy too that is an extra bonus. I tell me friends I have "**** YOU" money. Took that term from a movie I watched some years ago and applied it to my own life. Funny, years ago they all made fun or me saying I would lose my money investing my nickles and dimes. They were rich business owners. Now They work for someone else heading into their 70's and I have cash flow. I am humbled and feel very lucky indeed. Lucky and smart. Now if I can just outlive my much younger girlfriend until she reaches my age!!

My wife and I just paid off our main house this last June.

It's a really strange feeling being 100% debt free.

I'm only 52 so I've got a ways to go before I can officially retire. Biggest concern is medical insurance.

Not sure when I'll pull the plug, i may just step into a less hectic job but then after 20+ years here, making a decent living and plenty of vacation time it's hard to step into something else.

Hoping your retirement comes quick and easy.

I hear you loud and clear. I am making big bucks for what I do and have 6 weeks vacation plus always at least a week off at Christmas. But at almost 64 years of age its time to stop being greedy and start living. This is something only each one of us can decide on our own. I may be loosing the money but I will be gaining 46 weeks more vacation a year.

Retired three times, on paper at 50, out the door at 53 to 2nd dream gig of which I retired at 63... Being the jobs were intense at times figured I had pushed them far enough, it was time and faced the boredom fear.

Like you said Covid crap didn’t help, but made me take time for items in the garage with a couple of antiques running better now. You will be fine once you create you own structure for time as staying healthy is key...
