My neighbour's Hardball has cruise control and he says the cruise light comes on but it won't set. Any ideas I can pass on to him? Thx

Paul did a full diagnostic video for the cruise.

The first time on each ride on my XC I have to push the set button 3 maybe 4 times to get it to set. Works with 1 touch until I start it up again. Been this way since I got it 30k miles ago.

Should be a 3-5 second delay after pressing the on/off before you can set it, you must be moving at least 25mph. Is it the cluster light that comes on and stays on? This is what it should do normally after pressing the set button. If it comes on as soon as you press the on/off, I think that means the cable switch beneath right side of tank is closed when you try to set the cruise. You can test this by disconnecting either spade connector. Closing the throttle manually will not disable cruise in this state so be cautious and use brake, clutch or on/off button to switch it off.

Fwiw, I hold my speed level for a moment before pressing the set button and maintain throttle position for a second or 2 after pressing the button to lessen the chance of surging as it centers on the set speed.
