Leave at day break it will give you maximum daylight riding time it’s a plus in my eyes. I run west every summer out of Chicago and Dillon colorado is about 1060 miles for me. It’s not that difficult but I’ve been touring for 38 yrs and 800 to 1000 mile days I’ve been doing for quite some time. I run interstate because there’s nothing between Chicago and Denver NOTHING ! You will make your best time on the interstate to accomplish that 1000 mile run. I cruise about a pretty consistent 80 mph myself. Your looking at roughly 13 hrs in the saddle at that pace plus your fuel stops. Watch your signs for fuel sometimes your forced to stop earlier then you’d like. Don’t push a gas stop thinking you’ll gain a little. You run out of fuel it’s gonna cost you some serious time. Due to miles between exits with fuel sometimes your forced to stop sooner. Stay hydrated or it will sneak up on you. Good luck to you.

Finished... Left just before 5am and got home a hair after 130am. Only hit rain for 30 minutes, and got lucky a few more times with showers on one side or the other, or already past. Ran 77 north from Charlotte to 64 East, then up 81...stopped at Antietam National Battlefield, then ran 70 to 68 West to 79 South back into 77 home. Most of the loop was in the mountains and from about 4pm on traffic was very light. In fact, it was just 81 that had any significant traffic, and the short stretch on 70 through the downpour. Thanks all for the input... Nice to finally get one documented since I am at or around that number a fair bit. I think today was my highest mileage day at around 1081 miles.
